Default Ride/Group Size

I've been wondering what size group of bikes do most riders prefer on say an average weekend day ride ?

I used to think that my preference was 5 bikes or less. After looking back and thinking about it, lately its been solo riding for the most part. It seems the bigger the group the less riding actually occurs for some reason? Multiple food, water and restroom stops slow the ride way down. With just a couple well prepared riders we can go all day and into the night. My thirst for lots of miles seems to eliminate a lot of riders due to time constrants or just to many miles at once in general.

Most of my ride partners stay with it for 100 or 150 miles. By 200, only one or two. By 300 miles I'm usually riding solo! Unless one rider in particular is in the group. In that case he's good for a full 500 mile day of twisty roads.

I avoid group rides for the reasons mentioned.

Let's meet at 5.00h you say, at 5.30h still waiting for some riders to show up, 6.00h and people are still yapping away. Finally ready to leave and someone decides to check his tire pressure, 10 minutes into the ride and someone needs gaz, 30 minutes into a ride and someone stops to make a phone call, 45 minutes into a ride and everybody wants a break !.

I usually ride alone or with a friend or two at most.

I also do get annoyed about peoples problems and how they cant take care of it before the ride.
also i get nervous when i see others messing around, not being smart about it and getting close to me which limits my emergency exits.

but riding with a few buddies is gr8

I've ridden mostly solo or in pairs. I would like to branch out to larger groups (4-5) but for the most part, I don't know many people who ride. But I can always count on my roomate coming home from work at 10PM and asking if I want to take a "short" ride to get smokes. Before I know it, I've got to be up for work in 4 hours and we are 30 miles from home.

I ride a good 400miles a weekend and durning the week who knows. through the twisty roads around here. In a group of 3 at most, its always great times, have alot of nice rides in northern ontario through the moutain roads.
Waiting for people is a bummer, especially cause we ride early 80's sport bikes, someones always messing with their bike and delayin everything.
But once rollin we go all day and into the night sometimes. Great fun

pushin 84,000kms on the clock now
