Ah, but you are missing the point here. You can spend your money any way you wish, but you need to remember that you are not alone on the street. You will be sitting on a machine that can propel you forwards faster than a formula-1 racecar. That kind of power, together with a lack of experience, will lead to an accident.

The danger is that you can hurt someone else - an innocent bystander. That is what we are trying to prevent. There are children, dogs, deer, and all kinds of other dangers on the road.

There are plenty of resources on the 'net to compare insurance prices. Don't ask us to do the work for you - Google is your friend.

Dear Joseph Smith:

Thank you for your Internet request.

Your annual policy premium is $9297.00.

You can start this policy with a low down payment of $1166.00. The coverages
you selected are as follows:

- Bodily Injury Liability: 25,000/50,000
- Property Damage Liability: 10,000
- Pedestrian Personal Injury Protection: Basic
- Medical Payments: 500
- Supplementary Uninsured Motorist: 25,000/50,000
- Comprehensive: 500 Deductible
- Collision: 500 Deductible

next is from Your 12 Month Progressive Direct rate:

Paid in full: $5,458.00

Or with the following Payment Options:

****** 11 Payments Option ******
Electronic Funds Transfer
from checking account.

DownPayment: $496.14
10 payments*: $497.19

*(Installments due on the same
day each month for 10 consecutive months)
*Each payment includes a $1.00 installment fee.

so then i call my allsate agent and they give me a quote for 7K for full coverage.

so then i call lighthouse insurance who insures my dr650se and they gave me a quote for 1800.00 for full coverage with 1000.00 Deductible..

so i think i know who to go with if i get this new bike

drop the comprehensive and collision and ask for a re-quote.

And that number will go down every year you own the bike while you're insurance bill will stay the same.
It didn't work out that way for me. My last bike was a Triumph Rocket 111, I did pay full MSRP becaus it was a brand new model. $15000 plus about another grand for tax, and license. I was rear ended, and the bike was totalled last Sept, the bike was about a year old, with 6500 miles on it. My insurance company (State Farm) wrote me a check about 10 days later for $14500. In addition to that, they also replaced my glasses, watch, and helmet that were damaged when I went down. I wasn't even wearing the helmet, it was straped to the seat. The guy that hit me ( no insurance) was deemed to be at fault, so my rates did not go up. So I can't agree with those of you that are saying you don't need full coverage. By the way, this is my 5th claim in 7 years, and my rates have not gone up, because none of them were my fault.

What was your helmet doing strapped to the seat. You're lucky to be alive. Wear a lid!! Especially on a Rocket III.

I think he wanted to protect the place the helmet was strapped on.

Riding someone else's bike a few times is not the same as owning your own bike. If I'm on someone else's bike, I'm very careful not to damage it. And I'm careful because I'm not familar with it.

On my bike, I don't have to worry about explaining anything to anyone (except my girlfriend and my insurance company) if I trash it. I am very familar with my bike, and I like to know it's limits (and my own). I ride it much harder than I would ride someone else's bike.

Yep, a lot of it is the bike, and a lot of that is how many get stolen. Race replica bikes are the most likely to be stolen.

I have California Casualty (not just for CA residents though) 1-800-800-9410. I pay $32/mo and can cancel it during months of non-op. They also have the automatic withdraw plan, which I use so I don't forget to pay my insurance!

I am 44 and drive a '06 C50T cruiser, but it's still gotta be worth you checking it out....

Good luck,
Daryl

NOTE FOR SPEED-DEMONS...

Quoted from "Sport Rider" Magazine's SPECIAL EDITION (photo annual; to be displayed until March 21, 2006), pg. 92 Article --> CORONA SUZUKI GSX-R1000 K5; East Meets West

"Around 60% of the parts in the streetbike are retained on the racer."

Wow, didn't know that your regular sportbike owner actually rides on that much! Thought it was watered-down to at least 40%. Full capabilities (I'm sure) can only legally be attained on the track, then again speed-demons do exist .
