Default Countersteering Thanks!

I want to thank this group for its discussion on Countersteering. I tried it for the first time today and all I can say is WOW. I took the MSF course last year here in PA and while they talked about pushing down in the direction you want to go, they did not talk about countersteering. In my mind there is a BIG difference.

What I had been doing was literally pushing DOWN on the handle bar in the direction I wanted to turn. By this I mean I pushed straight down towards the ground. I used a lot of effort and I was able to turn, but I could not negotiate tight turns unless I slowed down dramatically. Even forcing myself to lean into the turn did not seem to help much. The bike would not do tight turns.

Today on my ride I was feeling a little more confident and decided to try this countersteering thing and see what happens. Thus I gently pushed the handle bar forward on the side I was turning to. WOW the bike leaned over and cut into the turn sharper than I could every do it before.

From that point on I did it on every turn and found myself wizzing through the twisties. MUCH more fun

So THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!

I'm only upset that the MSF course did not teach this more clearly!
