Default Brand new 2006 sv650s

Just traded in my sv650 standard model and got the new 2006 sv650S (teal). I love the new bike. The riding position is actually more confortable for me and the shifting seems a lot smoother (maybe just my imagination). Anyway, the guy at the dealership told me that the break in period requires that I keep the engine under 6000 for the first 1000 miles. I thought it 5000 for 600 miles. Does anyone know what's recommended? Also, is it damaging to rev up to the recommended max once in a while, but not exceed it?

One more thing -- Is there an easy way to get the stickers off of the gas tank and frame without leaving bits of the stickers behind?

Is the riding position very different on the '06 sv650 vs the prior years?

I don't think the riding position is any different than the 05 SVs, but the new bike is different for me because I went from the standard to the S model

'04, '05 and '06 have the exact same position.

From '04 to '05 --> Black rims and frame instead of silver
From '05 to '06 --> Paint colour (as far as I know)

Umm, RTFM? If your dealer didn't inform you of the proper break-in procedure and hand you the manual, they failed miserably.

As for the sticker question...

the manual for mine said 5000rpm for 600 miles by the way, then I believe 7500rpm to 1000 miles(not positive on this though).

Thankfully the bike doesn't look that girly green in person. The color is much better then you'd think after looking at that picture.

As far as break in periods, some do the MOM procedure others say ride it hard like your gonna and it develps more HP. Which is best?? Well it's your $6700 bike, do what you think is best for it.

As to the stickers. I think the tank one is clear coated on but the others on the rear and front plastics you should be able to WD-40 off and then Goof Off the rest, same with the frame. Just be carefull with the Goof Off as you would want to use it lightly. Post that give the area a wash and then slap some wax on the area to protect it.

None of the warning stickers on my '05 were under clear coat...

Default Break-in SV

I read a million posts about the break-in. What did I do?

1. Went easy on her for the first 20 miles; up to 6,000.
2. Gave her a couple 3/4 throttle up to 9,000 between 20 and 25 miles (going up-hill) and inmediatelly changed the oil.
3. Used her up to 9,000 with 3/4 throttle until 598.
4. Saw what she could do from that point on ... trying not to red line her ever.

Cheers,

Serge

I followed the manual, with a few exception on the highway and when passing cars.

I used a hair dryer to heat my stickers up and then just slowly peeled them off re heating as necessary. Then used goo gone to take off the left over sticky stuff and then washed and applied a couple coats of wax.

I live on the 3rd floor, so I just borrowed extension cables from friends and ran it out into the parking lot.
