Default @ SV owners

I notice a ton of you guys are on SV650's. Just curious why you went with the SV over the Gixxer's. Cheaper Insurance? The Semi-Naked look? Not a flame at all since I think the SV650S is a beautiful bike, just curious why not a fully-dressed bike?

V-Twin. 'nough said

As for the looks, although I love the semi-nudity, I'm trying to collect funds to dress mine up. Wanna contribute?

I had a Duc 1000 before this one and got jooked by the V-Twin performance. When I needed to get something that had good torque and was fun to ride under 80mph the SV seemed better fitted. At leats I go through three gears ...

It was cheap (under $6,000.00 OTD) and insurance was 60% of what they quoted on a IL4 600.

The riding position is slightly more comfortable than the gixxer...I LOVE the v-twin rumble, they are cheaper as far as insurance, they are just great bikes in general...plus I like the paint job better...less busy...

I've rode the GSXR 750. I've never rode the SV, but I have sat on it and I would take the SV. But then I would probably take the V-Strom over the SV.

Ya...I really like the feel of my GSX-R600. It's very comfortable compared to my brother's CBR600F4i.

I think I like the looks of the regular SV650 better than the S version, but that is probably because I don't like having the front fairing part where the gauges are that doesn't turn with the handle bars.

Full fairings are nothing but sales dressing on a street bike. Most of our members are genuine motorcyclists and not posers. They want a bike that performs as well as they need it to and fits them comfortably.

I'd take a Gixxer as a second bike for the track, but for my only bike, SV any day over a Gixxer.

I like the torqueiness of the V-twin..lower insurance..and i do not need all the speed of a gsxr.

edit: and more comfortable onl longer rides. This is a big thing considering i put 13,000 miles on the bike this season.

It's a great beginner's bike. Three years of ownership and it still impresses and surprises me with its performance. It's comfortable and I prefer torque to horsepower, although that may change with a few more track days. And you cant beat the price.

With all due respect, I beg to differ, a full fairinged bike is not just "sales dressing", it adds to the riding comfort and gives weather protection. I have nothing against naked bikes but my old bones like creature comforts such as windshield, fairing ect.
Poser, I think putting over 30000km on a bike in 2 northern riding seasons disqualifies me as a poser

True, but we're not talking about touring bikes like the ST. The discussion centered on sportbikes, whose fairings do not offer much in the way of weather protection and most owners certainly don't tour on them.

Point taken, my bike dosn't fit the true difination of a sportbike, it is geared more toward touring. That being said, how do you explain farings on the bikes in this link, posers? just for decoration? I think fairings are a functional part of a sportbike, not only for show.

Umm, those aren't sportbikes, they're racebikes (or rather sportbikes being ridden on a track). Anyone who is riding like that on the street should be shot. Twice.

Fairings provide absolutely no aerodynamic advantage at even close to legal speeds. Like I said, poser value.

Hiya SuzukiGirl1...saw you live in St Paul. Used to live there myself up on Mounds Park. Had to move back south where it's warm more than 3 months a year.

My turn? OK, if fairings aren't needed on a sportbike because most sportbikes will never see the track or be raced, they will only be ridden at posted speed limits, then a parallel argument would be a 1200cc engine is just for show, nobody needs an engine with that much horsepower to ride at 55mph.
Riding like a lunitic on city streets is absolute foolishness, I would never promote it but let me loose on a twisty desolote road and I'll be clipping along at a decent pace and dragging the pegs.
Bottom line is, and I'm sure you know this as well as anybody, people's choices in bikes are personal preferences, fairing or non fairing, blue or red, cruiser or sport tourer, to each his own.

AMEN BROTHER!!! Thank goodness we live in a society that permits us to make that choice. I hope it stays that way.

No, actually there's a significant difference. When I'm loaded with two-up and camping gear, I can get to 55 a hell of a lot quicker with my 1157cc engine that I could if I had a 250cc engine. When I'm at 10,000 feet I can ride at a brisk pace. When I want to wheelie, I can. It's useful and practical. Fairings, on the other hand, do nothing but look cool. Your analogy is neither parallel nor valid.

I've got nothing against choice or personaliziation. I'm just saying there's no reason to buy a sportbike with fairings unless you like the looks.
