Default power band

You're power band shouldn't start on a newer gsxr until around 6500-7000 rpm.

Roll slowly into your throttle in 1st gear. When you feel it start to "jerk" just a little (quirky gsxr power bands), that's the point it starts.

If you can't feel it out in 1st, try it in 2nd. If you roll hard into it, you will definately feel when it kicks in. My 02 750 kicked in at 7200rpm and pulled like mad at that point!

So where do you guys cruise at? Say you're going 30mph, what gear are you in, and what rpm are your churning? I'm still used to my stang where I cruise around 2k or so, lol.

Ride enough and it'll come by second nature. I know how to wring just about every ounce of power outta the Bandit, but I could only guess where it happens on the tach. I only use it to adjust the idle.

At 30 mph, I'm in 2nd. For normal cruising around town, 3rd is usually good. When you slip on to a country road or a highway, kick it up to 4th. Very rarely is my bike in 5th, unless it's on an Interstate and I'm cruising at 70-80mph for a long distance. 6th gear will prolly never get used on my bike since I never take it above 80mph. I always try and keep my RPM's between 5k and 7k when I am cruising. On back roads with alot of twisties, I like to run at about 8 or 9k.

Holy crap, that's screaming. You're burning a lot of extra gas that way.

I was reading through old threads and i found this one. It ended here, with what RR said, i was expecting some elaboration.....

RR...what are your average cruising gears/RPMs...at say 30-50mph?

Thanks
Chris

Never mind the RPM.

If the motor is whining, shift up, lugging, gear down.

It is the feel of the bike, the sound of the motor/exchaust note.

The powerband is located at diff. RPM on diff. bikes.

Use the feel and sound of your bike to tell you when to shift, if you are approaching a steep hill, do not wait till you are on the upslope to shift, drop down to anticipate the need for the powerband.

Coming up to a curve or turn, anticipate the need to gear down, slow in power out. Practise being smooth, improve your abilities, very few of us will ever use the maxium of our bikes.

If you have a TRE fitted or a power commander the power band will be less noticable as the power has been spread across the full range.

yah when im crusing around i keep my rpms between 4-5 grand

because that gives me room to decelarate with out starting to lugg(3000)

and room to accelarate without hitting my powerband(8000)

I 100% agree with the fact that the power commander distributes the power band of the bike over the entire RPM range. After the power commander installation, my bike is snappier and smoother than ever in the lower RPM ranges.
