Hey Guys... OK.. 3 Points 1. I tried the sit-up-put-hand-on-hip thing. That meant I was twisted weird to reach the throttle. If I need to stretch the back I do a little pelvic wiggling. It must look like I love my bike more than is decent I guess, but it helps loosen the spine. 2. Triumphs and Nortons were released out here with reversed foot brake & shift levers up until '76 and called American Models. Hand controls were still normal. 3. Waving is easy.. Lift your left hand off the bars and wave in the direction of the other person. Nodding is more common. P.S. We ride on the left of the road. |

i too see this one handed riding position with kids going 55+ miles per hour on the highway...i think here at least in the part of florida where i live its just a "coolness" statement more than anything else as every 22 year old kid owns a gsxr750 or the like...personally i ride an sv650N and i have only seen 1 other person in my town with one...so sadly its the whole "squid" tendancy among the younger crowd that seems to be so prevalent around here where i live..

I've ridden 600 mile days, and I can honestly say I've done everything up to and including standing up at 70 for miles at a time. Sore muscles are sore muscles. When you've been on a bike for many thousands of miles your comfort level is quite high and these things are really nothing.

Aches and pains are just part of the ride. Stopping is my problem. That's when I feel it. Do a 1000 mile day and those gas stops near the end are real painful!

OK.. I found out today that I was wrong.. Only Triumphs had the swapped controls and it was hand levers too.. I spoke to an old rider I know who owned a 74 Bonnie and he remembers many front wheel slides when trying to shift gears and coasting down the road instead of braking There seems no explanation as to why Triumph thought this was a good idea. Then again they thought a sprung hub was good suspension at one time. |

So Ozzies ride on the wrong side of the road? Must be really confusing to ride a bike with reversed controls, a car I think I'd handle okay, but a bike...

Now this is getting interesting.. Apparently most of the early stuff including Ducati's & Harley's were on the other side.. Then along came the Japanese and said "No! Put them on this side" and eventually most manufacturers fell into line

My old Duc's had the controls flipped. Had to think what bike you were on when you rode something else!

K, even I'm guilty of something like this once in a while and that's on a cruiser... I think it came from a smoking habit... learning to shield it. And on long trips, yep, flipping the cruise on and moving the arm around is needed. But most important... on long trips... get off every hour and a half (take a whiz if you need an excuse) and stretch the muscles. | |
