| Where Am I ? | Suprised I couldn't find a "new members" area, so I'll post here as my bike is a sport bike. Hi everybody, my name is Jon and I am new here. Driven by excitement, friends, and the rising gas prices I have chosen to enter the realm fo two-wheeled people movers. I recently aquired a 92 Suzuki GSXR-600 on ebay and am willing to learn how to ride safe. I have a few people at my work who are already into sport bikes and one of whom is willing to teach myself and my girlfriend, who also is joining the bike world. She is in the process of buying a 95 Kawasaki Ninja-600 from this friend of ours. Now, i have a few questions about my perticular bike that i hope that you people can answer. I am looking for a service manuel for it, but can;t seem to find any for that year (1992). Most that i find are for newer GSXRs. I was wondering, if any can point me in the right direction. Also, the seat on my bike has been replaced with an aftermarket one. I am trying to find its origens. I'll try and post a picture so you can see what i mean. I am curious to know if there should be turn signals somewhere on that seat or are the turn signals suppost to be intrigated into the brake lights. In any case it doesn't seem to have rear turn signals. Another subject some of you may know is that if you buy a bike on ebay, from someone the same state as you, can you make the person fix the bike so that it passes inspection? I know that in MA if you buy a car from someone with the price of over $600, it has to pass inspection or else you can have your money refunded untill the person fixes whatever causes the car to fail. If so, should i bring the bike back if it fails for turn signals? I believe it already will fail because if you step on the rear brake pedal, the brakelights do not light up. Sorry for the long post, I hope that you guys can answer atleast some of my questions

| Wish you had stopped in BEFORE the purchase, may have saved you some hassle. First off, your gonna probably take a bit of ribbing from this community about your bike choice. This is a VERY safety concious board, and a GSX-R, even an ealy 90's model is not what most folks here would recommend.for a new rider. They will also give you some advice about not learning from friends, as stats say this is the absolute worse way to acquire your skills. So before the flames get fueled, consider taking a MSF Beginners course. It will give you all the basics about safe riding, and start you out with good habits that may just save your arse one day. Oh, yeah, and buy the best gear you can afford. If future posts seam a bit harsh, or if this one does it's all in an effort to keep you on the road and out of the ER. Welcome again, and good luck.

| I'm not gonna flame, but I will totally agree with what Scourge is saying, believe me it's true. Don't let your friend teach you and if possible.......stop your GF from buying a Ninja 600 for now, if ya can look at something with lower cc's for her, then move up after getting taking the MSF course and getting some experience in. I don't know ebay procedure's myself very well, but I'd see if ya can get your money back and/or get something smaller for yourself to also get some experience on and keep the one ya have for a "project" to fix up in the mean time.

| Where Am I ? | Thank you everyone for your words. Personally i haven't ridden the bike yet. I do intend to take the local riding course which is very advised from everyone who has ever took it. As for a lower cc bike, if anyone wants to DONATE one to me that would be wonderful! After now browseing alittle on the boards i see a common trend with the fact that NEWBE + big bike = instant death. I also see that most of you knwo your ****. I feel torn inside... its like, i just took out a loan for this and now i learn that i should instead get another bike to start on. Once again, if anyone wants to LOAN me a bike to LEARN on that EVERYBODY approves of as a good LEARNER bike, thats fine.

| Found one option for the service manual for ya http://www.repairmanual.com/catalog/99500-36071-03E or google 99500-36071-03E for more of a selection Also, don't take this the wrong way, Concerning the brake light......before messing with the brake light switch or wiring harness check the bulb to see if it's blown. I've had no such luck on the seat so far. I'm sure the guys and gals here can help ya with that, wiring and other problems.....GOOD Luck.

| If you're going to wait and see whether it "passes" without signals, you're off to a bad start already. You shouldn't even consider riding a bike without proper safety equipment. The other motorists on the road are among your biggest threats, and you can't afford to increase that threat. Integrated signals are nearly worthless anyway, so don't go that route. No, you won't be able to force an eBay seller to improve the bike.

| Ideally another bike would have been....well....ideal, but we all live in the real world, so you got's what you got's, it isn't a death sentence. The important thing is to remember that riding is dangerous as hell. Everyone here knows that and it's just part of the accepted risk of doing something we really enjoy. That's why Safety comes first. First thing though is to get that unit into a certified Suzuki dealership and have em give it the once over. It's tough enough bein a new rider, without having a sick machine under you. If it checks out and after you've taken the MSF course, just stick to your neighborhood for a while, and spend lots of time in empty parking lots working on the skills you where taught at class. Then start to increase the radius of your travels. This is what I did to get myself back in the saddle. Take it SLOW.
