| Newbie | I have been on dirt bikes etc..but recently I took the MSF class and am now looking for a weekend fun/commuter...I have a couple cages so it won't be all I own for transportation. I was just wondering about the GS500F and how well it does on the interstate (75+) ? I just don't want to be short on power if I get caught in a sticky situation at higher speeds. If not this bike what else would you reccomend? Looking to buy new preferably. |

| The GS500 should easily keep up at highway speeds, but it is light so it will be blown around a more than larger bikes. Still, it is a very good bike to start with. The EX500 (Ninja) that fast dan suggests is also a good one.

GS500: 51 HP EX500: 60 HP The Kawasaki is slightly more powerful, provides about the same torque and is heavier by 7 pounds.

The only real negative are the bars. They look like they came off a mountain bike. They are tall skinny and black. Easy up grade to do though. Other than that a cool starter bike.

| at 75+ you will need more than a 500 for meaningful acceleration. If you have sufficient experience & maturity you might want to consider the SV650S or V-Strom 650. both will have comfortable power for the highway. The SV is sportier while the V-Strom is more comfortable and easier to handle with the upright ergos.
