Default Another lesson learned today...

There was a thread here on MJ a couple weeks ago about remembering to put down your kickstand before getting off the bike. Well, I've got another.

Remember to put the bike in gear if you'll be parking on a hill. I forgot and my bike rolled down my driveway backwards with the steering locked to the left. It hit my Jeep and dumped over on the right side. I just installed 3" HK pipes yesterday. Yeah, I'm a bit pissed at myself. Pricing parts to repair and debating options with the pipes. I may get them recoated (I installed the black ResTech ones) or try to buy just a replacement for the damaged pipe.

So...one more time...if you'll be parking on a slope, make sure the bike is in gear so it doesn't roll down the hill.

Crap!

That is one effed up story man.

I feel bad for you man.

Did you get to see the whole thing go down? Or did you just stumble upon the aftermath?

I was in the house and heard the crash. I knew exactly what happened as I ran to the door. I didn't see it personally but the neighbor across the street saw the whole thing in her rearview mirror as she was backing out of the driveway. Nothing she could have done it happened so quick.

Looking like about $600 in parts not including the pipes. That's replacing anything that's damaged. I'll actually sit and figure out what parts can be repaired rather than replaced tomorrow to save some dough.

Ya sorry to hear it. I have a friend who also did not leave his bike in gear (even after I suggested it was a good idea). One day while we were all standing and talking in the driveway, his wife sat on it and it started to roll backwards. She rolled back quite a ways before stopping; luckily she had the presence of mind to grab the front brake while we all stood and watched. Safe to say, he now always leaves his bike in gear.

Default parking

Just to add a little, Make sure it is in the lower gears like first or second at the highest, otherwise it will creep on you and can cause it to tip over or otherwise move just enough to cause problems the like.(speaking form experience)!!!
