Default Strongly Considering the Dark Side

Well, after a lot of searching and reading. I am strongly thinking about going to the dark side. I am a nervous, but 8k is unacceptable to me.

My tire of choice will be the Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread. Once I get some experience with it. I'll let you know my thoughts.

Chuck

Default better tires

Yes, I have. I wanted to put Avons on, but they don't make a tire for the Roadliner. Only two companies that make a tire in our size is Bridgeston and Dunlop. I have had two Dunlops. I paid just over $450 for the last one and I get maybe 8K. Other mc tires sell for half that and last close to twice as long.

I have emailed Avon and encourged them to consider making a tire for our bikes. Their answer was, "this tire size is exclusive to the Roadliner / Stratoliner, therefore, we did not think the cost to produce a tire that is limited to one type of motorcycle would be cost effective".

I am not sold on the idea of a car tire. I have my resevervations! Nor, do I like spending $1,200 a one season for front and rear tires. I figure, for maybe $200 bucks, I can try it. And if I don't like it, I'll go back to OEM.

Firstly - coming from a FZ1, 8K is fantastic. It was more like 4-5K there...and that was with good luck.

I know there are a lot of guys at the Delphi Roadliner/Strat forum switching to the Avon Cobras 200/55/17.

Having good luck with I guess - I know that is where I'm heading after my current Brigies.

Well first off $450 is absolutely rediculouse for either the dunlop or bridgestone.
These guys have the stone for $97 front and $137 rear Yamaha Bridgestone Motorcycle Tires- Motorcycle Pro Shop 916-641-7800
avon cobra 200/55 for $197 I think
Motorcycle Pro Shop

Also this place has both stockers pretty cheap but dunlop is backordered until htye pull there heads out of there butts
save 25% on all your Yamaha parts and accessories

I couldn't agree more. This is why I am looking for something else. I did call South Seattle when I was looking for my last tire. They were right at $400 for the tire plus shipping.

I am open for suggestions on other tires that will hold up at a reasonable price. I have several friends that run Avon, on their Venture and love them. Cost is somewhere around $200 and they get 15k or so.

So.......why are we having this discussion in the first place?
Half the price and twice the mileage.....and personal testimonials to boot ??
What about that is not good enough for you ??
Why are you having those EVIL thoughts ???

Mainly because all the tour tires that we have for the liner dont last too long. These things seem to eat tires pretty good. Plus there are no real options out there. Bridgestone and dunlop are the only ones that make the oem size and the dunlops you cant even hardly find anymore.

What effect can I expect running the Cobra vs D251? Is it a taller tire? We do a lot of 2 up riding, will it rub the fender bolts? How will it effect the speedomer and the Odometer?

why do non-liner riders have to inject their .02 on liner-specific topics? i don't go around interjecting or badmouthing my opinions regarding gz250's because i have never ridden one. go ahead and go off on me now, i wouldn't expect anything different.

as for the ct, i say give it a try. i like mine and i actually ride a liner

Dunno, maby cause it is a motorcycle. Is it me or do Liner riders seem to have a chip on their shoulder?
