But of course! It's the only way to survive LA rush hour traffic! It's the norm here. Some cages try to block you. But most make room for you. It's not legal or illegal here, just accepted, until a LEO thinks you are being wreckless. Then any of a dozen citations may apply.

It can be dangerous. But you develope a sixth sense for it with experience. Two friends have been intentionally taken out by cage drivers over the years. Both cagers were prosecuted for a slew of of things! Luckily both riders are now ok and back on two wheels.

I've done it a few times, but only through a few rows of cars. I wish it was legal here, but traffic really isn't that bad.

Hey Pay, I'd add a few more options so we can get a better picture:

3. Yes, but I didn't think it was worth the risk.
4. No, but I wish it was legal here.

I think any congested city should accept it, as it does reduce traffic. No need to make it legal or illegal. Same as California. If you are wreckless or cause an accident, well, you knew before hand the risk involved. If all the bikes in Los Angeles were forced to sit in line like the cars, rush hour would be even worse and last a whole lot longer.

With rising gas costs and more people taking to two wheel commuting, lane sharing would save even more fuel. Every bike is one less car on the road, and gets at least twice the mpg! Less cars on the road, then the remaining cars can get on and off the road sooner during rush hours. But what does one old biker know. That's what politicians are for! Riigghhhhhttttt!

I haven't split lanes yet, but you better bet your bottom dollar I will if there's a good possibility I will get rear ended while stopped.

Yes, but only once or twice during rush hour traffic, if its hot weather. Waiting for cars to move is hell on a hot day. Don't know if its legal here - I don't think it is, but traffic cops on bikes do it. Maybe a grey area.

Its 106 miles to Chicago. We have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, its dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Hey, psycho, we're not getting back together. Now get out of my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up.

It's illegal here (and virtually everywhere in the U.S.).

Nope, not me...but the way rush hour drivers are 'round here, I'm pretty sure they would get ticked if I did!

Is it lane splitting if cars get over into your lane and you ride the white line so you don't be crushed under them?

I've done that a few times.

Have I done it? Yes, when traffic comes to a stand-still on the motorway.
Do I do it often? No.
Is it legal here? No. If you are caught, the minimum penalty is a 2 month suspension of your driver's license.
Is it common? Yes, whenever traffic slows down, some squid will start splitting lanes.
