Default What was the winningest drag motor in a suzuki- and what bike did it come in original

Was it an early GS? I know suzuki absolutely dominated drag racing until they changed the rules to make harley competitive (not starting a harley debate here BTW LOL) - but my next bike will be a bike with that motor in it LOL

The engine on Suzuki's winning formula is based on the mid-80's GS1150. Antron Brown's US Army Pro Stock racer uses this engine.

Correct

GS 1150 it is.

Same deal in Top Fuel Dragsters the Kieth Black Hemi that they all use is based on the Mopar 426 Hemi

Looking at www.dragbike.com it appears as though the GS 1100 E is the most popular donor bike- and mods came later. Some controversy as to 8v vs 16v.

Actually- the kieth black hemi is truly based on the 426 hemi- to the point it can be used as a replacement block for a stock block that is broken- something that the new harley race motor can't do- it has no relations whatsoever with any stock HD motor- the Vand H motor is a complete one off motor.

My question is because I want a GS at some point- I have my feelers out here locally all the time in case I stumble across one- funny, because I am not finding one, but I find rarer bikes all the time LOL- and, in my search for a GS 1100 E, other suzuk bikes keep popping up for great prices, sometimes I will buy one and flip it- but mostly, I pass them on to my buddies- until I find something I am really looking for.

I also found out that GS 1100 Es are very, very heavy! 560lbs dry wieght! So if I get one, lightening it up will be a priority LOL

Too bad they are so wieght breaked and cc limited to death so HD can compete right now- but they brought this on themselves- had they not whined so much in the late 80 and early 90s about the Kawi's and Honda's and Yamaha's , NHRA and other sanctioning bodies wouldn't have felt it neccesary to slow down the 'zuks in order to save the class.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what exactly was Suzuki's whine against the other members of the big 4? I find it kind of ironic that this little squabble turned out to benefit Harley Davidson.

well acctually the suzuki's will be able to lighten the bike up in like a week or so i think it was like 14 or 16 lbs... so that they can make up for the hd having more hp!!!!

this is from www.nhra.com

"Pro Stock Bike

Page 160 (8/05)

Designation: Replace second sentence with, "Minimum weight at conclusion of run: Harley-Davidson or NHRA-accepted American push rod V-twin up to 160 cid, 615 pounds, including rider; Harley-Davidson or NHRA-accepted American push rod V-twin 161 to 200 cid, 600 pounds, including rider; Hondas and Kawasakis, 575 pounds, including rider; Suzukis, 590 pounds, including rider; all other, 600 pounds, including rider."
