Talking my sweet new ride

This thread is a continuation of the previous thread that I started:
http://www.suzuki-bikes.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8638

So I decided to go with the Suzuki GS500e. Ended up paying $1900 for it but the guy threw in a free helmet with it so I guess its not that bad of a deal. I looooooove the bike. I know its not as flashy or as fast as some of the bikes that I saw while browsing through the forums but as a first bike i think its wonderful. Not so fond of the color though but oh well. So far all I did was sit on it and try to balance myself while moving the bike with my feet. Since I dont have insurance or driving permit yet I'm not taking the risk of driving around, plus I dont want to drop the bike. One of my friends is gonna help me out with the driving lessons so in about a week or two i'll be up and running with confidence. Here's a pic of the bike:

I must admit having a bike is an experience like no other. it feels so liberating and exhilirating. I just love the sound it makes, and the sheer raw power that it possesses. Makes me almost glad I was born a male. I know females can also enjoy a bike...ok i dont wanna open up that can of worms lol. I cant wait to give it a go and see what the bike can really do. As far as being the first bike I ever rode on and owned I would highly recommend it to all the novices out there. Its a perfect mix of style, power, weight, and affordability.

Well I dont wanna bore you guys anymore. I wanted to thanks all you guys for the sound advice, and this site is awesome as well.

vik.

That's a very sweet bike. I much prefer the older styling of the GS500 as opposed to the newer gixxer look-a-like. It looks like it's in great shape as well. I would not depend on your friends to teach you how to ride. You could develop their bad habits. Enroll yourself in a MSF course and you'll thank yourself later. You'll have fun in the course and learn skills that may save your life one day.

ya maybe, but right now all the MSF courses that are state sponsored are completely booked. I'm trying to get it as a walk-in but they are always full. so he's my only option to atleast learn a little about riding. But I will take the MSF course though. Even he recommends it.

do yourself, your friend and your bike a favor --- take the MSF course first and then ride ---

I had to chuckle when you made the exclaimation about the power. I felt the same way when I got my first bike, a Yamaha Radian 600. It seemed like a rocket. My second bike, a Nighthawk 750, was much faster. My current bike blows them both away. Power is relative, and there's never enough. If I was to get back on the Radian, it would feel like a slug.

Congrats on a great bike.

Nice choice. Be careful and enjoy the bike! Make sure the helmet you are wearing fits.

Good choice, and dude if the bike will do the speed limit it's plenty fast enough. Others have said it so I'll just reiterate, that taking the MSF course should be your next step. It will teach you what you need to get started safely. Good luck, and have fun bro.

i think i will take the MSF course cause I tried to ride the bike by myself yesterday and its freaking hard. I moved like 5 feet and then slammed on the brake cause the bike started to wobble. Alot of things have to be done correctly to be able to ride it safely. Well I'm off to get a permit for the bike.

Can I ask why you ended up paying an extra $100 for the bike? Then he threw in a "free" helmet?

It's a very nice looking bike though. I still think that you got a great deal, it is just kind of weird how the transaction occured.

Good luck learning to ride. You'll have a blast on that bike.

Ya I know it is kinda wierd that he threw in a free helmet after hiking up the price $100. He had the bike up on ebay and then he realized that the reserve price that he put which was 1800 was too low considering how his bike is in such a good condition. So he decided to raise it to $1900. He was thinking he might get more for it, and he prolly would have.

I talked to him the first day of the auction when the price was 1800, but the next day I spoke to him he said he raised it to 1900. But for me only he said he would throw in a helmet if I bought it for 1900. Hence, the "free helmet".

I started to ride the bike, got my permit and my insurance now im all legit. I rode around alleys and empty roads, tomorrow im gonna try the parking lots, but the problem is getting there. I guess I'll figure it out tomorrow.

The bike is pretty comfortable once you start riding it but trying to push it with your legs while sitting on it is tough on your balls. Not doing that no more. My hands are all red and callused, pressing the clutch, then releasing then holding, its friggin tough. I need one of those stress balls to work out my hand and fingers and some leather gloves too.

Dont lean so far forward and if you have too its a good sign to get off and push!

Ive gone on a few hard rides with hard cornering and braking and found myself putting the twins through the grinder a few times! Still learnin that part too

Looks like a fun bike to ride. I can't say I've crushed the family jewels on my cruiser although I've done just that on my brother's CBR600RR. Here's hoping you and "the twins" have a fun and safe ride!
