Cool July in Texas (Dallas that is)

Well time to vent a little. Two weeks ago tomorrow I purchased my new bike. Since then I have been caught in the rain twice and have had to leave it parked all of this week due to rain. Did someone move Texas to Oregon when I was asleep. I know we need the rain but enough is enough!!

I'm in Central Texas, and work at Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport [Federal Government, Department of Homeland Security]. For the last 7-10 days straight, every day and night there have been delays anywhere from 15 minutes to 7 hours! We fly to Dallas and Houston, and the weather up [and down] there has been horrible.. neverending rain and storms I hear, but it always seems to pass over us here in CenTex. We just went through a dry period of about 25 days with no sign of rain... the typical Texas summer.

Texas weather is always unpredictable, as you probably know, so if the sky appears 100% perfect outside, pack your rain gear! Personally, I'm garaging the bike before I go to work.. until this precipitation forecast goes back to 0%!

I haven't ridden since Monday due to the rain. It's making me crazy. But, my yard (and water bill) loves the rain.

Are you guys made of sugar? Put on the rain pants and ride! It is actually quite fun. But I suppose all the chrome is hard to clean. I keep mine dirty.

When I ride in the rain I have to allow time to clean the bike afterward. A dirty bike is just unacceptable. That and the dorks in this area don't know how to drive in the rain.

Learn to ride in the rain or die from not knowing how to or leave the bike at home unless there is only a 5% chance or less of rain that day.

Personally I ride up to a 60% chance of afternoon showers. And sometime I beat them home and sometimes I don't but I can ride in heavy down pours if and when needed.

Here when the weather ppls call for 20% chance of rain, it's gonna rain.

Yep. Here in CenTex, when the forecast calls 80-90% chance of rain, it may rain. When it says 40% chance of rain, it's going to rain. The rain usually doesn't last longer than 5 minutes, though.

I have only been riding for 6-7 weeks [1350 miles]. I am still getting used to cornering and all that jazz.. so I'd rather be quite skilled at dry riding when I tackle the wet.

David Hough's Proficient Motorcycling is a must-read, for anyone who hasn't had the opportunity, by the way!

my basic rider training class was in the rain. took my test in a downpour.

the only thing i don't like about rain is having to wring out my leather boots afterwards.

Maybe you should move out to West Texas with us. Remember the time it rained 40 days and 40 nights? We got 1/4 of an inch.

Can I have my lighter back? Please?

Dre, your taste in books is excellent. The next book, More Proficient Motorcycling, Mastering the Ride should be on your Christmas wish list.
