| I'm trying to get my motorcycle license and I'm located in VA. I'm about to apply for the Virginia Rider Training Program course and if I pass this program, do I still need to take the permit/road skill test?? BTW, I'm 25 and have a valid driver's license. I tried doing a search but my findings are inaccurate. I'm hopeful that someone from VA can help me out with this.

| I honestly am not sure but I bet if you pass the course you get your license.

| I don't know how it works in Va. but here in NC, if you take the course, you do not have to take the skills riding test at the DMV. You only have to take a short written test and then they give you an "M" endorcement on your license. Hopefully a fellow Virginian will come along to let you know how it works in your state. I guess you could also try calling the DMV. Good luck.

| Clunked into first gear ![]() | I got mine (MC endorsement) in VA and after you take the MSF course all you have to do is sit for the written and you are good to go (providing you pass both the MSF and the written exam that is...)

IF YOU ARE 19 OR OLDER and you have never held a license issued by any state, U.S. territory or foreign country, you must also: Hold a motorcycle learner's permit for at least 30 DAYS OR Provide DMV with a certificate from the Virginia Rider Training Program indicating that you have successfully completed the state-approved motorcycle safety course. NOTE: If you provide DMV with a valid motorcycle safety course certificate, you will be exempt from holding the motorcycle learner's permit for 30 days and from taking the motorcycle road skills test at DMV. I've talked to a couple of people and they said that they took the permet test first and then took the SMF class, and they went back to DMV and they told them that they are still required to take the driving course... | |
