Default Intruder 800 front wheel flop.

Does anyone know of a way to get rid of the Intruder 800 front wheel flop?
Thanks... Bill

Define flop. We're not familiar with that term.

With very little tilting of the bike in either direction, the front wheel will "flop" to the right or left quite abruptly... scarry when it's parked with the wheel stright ahead and it flops all by it's self... gets your attention... also makes the wheel very heavy when doing slow turns like in parking lots...

Unless the triple tree is loose, it sounds to me like the bearings in the front wheel are gone (need replacing).

Sounds like a rake/trail thing that is inherent to that particular bike. You may be stuck with it. ;-|

Learn to deal with it, I guess. Maybe another rider with the same bike will see this and post what their thoughts are on the issue.

I've ridden different year 800 Intruder and never notice any such symptom as you described.

As mentioned before, you may have a bearing problem in either the triple tree or the front axel. Have it looked at ASAP.

I'm no expert but, it sounds like it may be a hazard.

My Savage does the same thing when parked on the smooth wooden floor of my shed ... wheel tends to flop suddenly to the left every now and again ... doesn't seem to happen on pavement though ... more friction between the tire rubber and the asphalt? As a previous poster stated it's probably inherant to the chopper-esque style of the Bike. Try turning the front wheel more to the right when parked, rather than straight ... this'll likely prevent it from flopping to the left. A pal of mine Rides an H.D. Softtail Standard and he has a steering damper installed which he can stiffen or loosen as he likes ... he says the chopper-esque style of that Bike gives it a floppy front end at lower speeds; damper helps this a lot.

I ride a Softail Standard and the front end is true and firm. Also the Savage we owned and the Intruder we currently own ride firm. I would venture to say that either the triple tree is loose or needs a bearing or the wheel bearings are loose or need replacing.
