Default Wrecked (Almost)

It'd be a blatent lie if i said it wasnt my fault, or even if i was fearless or anything. Very long story short, i ended up taking the wrong left on a local trail system. The summit i was starting out at was around 10000 feet, around 2-3 thousand feet above the valley floor. To get up there, i had to get my little xt-250 up an old logging road, half of which was washed out exposing the slanted bedrock under this shelf road. (I wish i had pictures, it was insane) After finally (2 hours) i reached the summit, only to find freakishly threatening thunderstorms approaching from the north (I was above tree line, ergo, no tree cover lightning=bad). I talked to a jeep dude a few hundred feet down the other side, he said there was an easy trail two lefts down that side. Turns out it was the first left Basically, i took an old (what looked like) waterfall route, about 10 miles of it, soft sandy soil covered in shelf rocks. I was *soaked* with sweat by the end of it.
The wreck itself wasnt so bad, but my nerves were so shot i was about to put the bike up on a tree and wait for a ride down. I was coming down a really steep section, around 60 degrees, across sheer rock (remember this is a dual sport, definitly not a trials bike) i was being stupid, and slammed on the front brake, making the front wheel slide forward and to the right, i put my left foot down for support, only to find nothing there. The result being, i cartwheeled about 15 feet down the trail, coming to rest about 10 feet from a rock shute My bike coincedentally was propped up against a tree, still running . I guess i was lucky, all i lost was a little skin on my ankle, and the bolt holding my clutch lever in. (to get down the rest of the hill i just stuck a stick in there)
All i can say, is thanks to this forum or i wouldnt have thought of getting gear. Even so, i over did it (i first thought) with the elbow and knee pads, when i look at them now, i would have scraped my knee to the bone if it wasnt there.
Moral of the story, if it looks bad at first, it probably is, and probably will get worse. Turn around and go back down, dont be a freakin dare devil.
