| Hey everyone, I'm brand new to this site and am considering a 2003 GS500E. (My first bike YEAH!) When I called this guy about his bike he told me he dumped it once going slow around a corner and his body hit and broke the tac and speedometer. Not a big deal I don’t think as he is replacing them. My question is, once a brand new speedometer and tac are put on, the kms are reset to 0. If I decide to trade in a year or so how does that affect the resale value, or value now. He also mentioned, there is really no other damage. He is asking $4,900cdn for it with 6,000 kms. Also I am 6’ 1, 200lbs, is this bike too small for me? Any help is appreciated.

| Firstly wlecome to the site. The bike will be fine for your size, bikes cannot be 'too small' unless your 6' 6" and 400lbs, you will have great fun on it and it is a good bike to learn on. As for the tach and speedo, i would have thought he was going a little more than slowly for his body to have enough force to break them just by falling off. Did he hit a stationary object or something? I would be a bit wary and check the bike out for additional damage, frame, forks, dents (it sounds like you haven't given it a good look over yet!), also check if it's HPI listed. They are easy enough to replace, and i think as long as you are honest when you resale it and tell potential buyers upfront that it had 6000km on clock when you replaced the tach it shouldn't affect the price too much. Can't help you if it's a fair price to buy with or not as i haven't a clue about the canadian market. |

| Sorry i thought it was an international thing. In england there is a list held by the vehicle licensing authorities that hold information on the vehicle e.g. if there is any finance outstanding on the vehicle, if it has been declared a write off previously by insurers, if it has been reported stolen etc.

| Welcome to the site, I'd give the bike a good looking over, maybe even take it to a dealer to make sure that nothing else was twisted during his little fall.

| A lot of blue exhaust upon start up suggests the engine is burning oil, check the condition of the disks and tyres this will tell you a lot about how the bike has been ridded, a dark blue discolouration of the disks and a rough texture to the tyres suggests the bike has been ragged solid (on a track probably) but this shouldn't be an issue on a bike like the gs500. Here is a post for people looking to buy used bikes already started by -nut http://www.suzuki-bikes.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6378 |
