Default Deals Gap?

Has anyone been to Deals Gap TN/NC. Not sure what state it is in, but I can get to it in about 4 hours (I think). What is it like? Do they have hotels, or camp grounds nearby. I heared there are 1.3 deaths a year (all motorcycle). I think this will be a sweet ride to make! I heared of this place a couple of years ago, but I didn't make it, cause I wrecked my bike. Let me know your experience with this road!
I think it is about 130+ curves in 11.3 miles!

Google "Two Wheels Only."

Watch for cops if you go.

Can I cut up your food for you, too?

Most people will tell you to go during the week, and to start out early in the morning. It's a zoo on the weekends. 1.3 people? Considering how many miles are ridden there annually, and how many visitors are squids with bare heads, I'd consider that pretty dang good.

Yes I was ther in 1993 and was due to go back on May 8th thru the 14th 2005 but my friend broke his hand and I had to cancel. 830 miles one way was to much for me to drive alone as I would fall asleep for sure. It is in western N.C. it has 318 turns in 11.5 miles and is great fun. If you can get a chance to go I highly recommend it! Fontan Village is a great place to stay if you need reservations.

fun place, but watch out for the locals who drop oil and sand down on purpose in an attempt to limit speeders.

There's a national SV rally there the first weekend in June. If I still have my SV next year I'll be heading up there for some fun.

==> http://www.svrally.com/

Lots of links and pics of the trail and shows Hotels and camp grounds too.

But beaware that the cops have been trying to shut down the speeder and I've read some posts about riders going down in favorite corners due to someone spilling oils on the roads with intent.

New speed record posted at Deal's Gap - Tail of the Dragon

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tapoco, North Carolina
May 22, 2005

Motorcyclist Larry Zoia (aka "Larry in Michigan") shattered the record yesterday on an eleven-mile stretch of US Highway 129 in North Carolina known as the Tail of the Dragon in a display of skill and patience that had motorcyclists and sports car drivers shaking their heads and talking to themselves while law enforcement officers checked the calibration on their radar devices.

Mr. Zoia turned in the longest non-stop time in history for negotiating the 318 turns, riding at speeds that would elicit middle-finger erections, horn-honking and jeers in a supermarket parking lot.

"I've never seen anything like it," one observer noted. "I didn't think a bike could go that slow and still remain upright."

Another observer stated, "It might have been an optical occlusion, but the sun, moving from east to west in the sky, seemed to pass him during the run."

The rider directly behind Zoia said, "Sixty minutes into the run, I knew I was watching history in the making as he entered the third turn, bolt upright, as leaning at that speed would result in a certain crash."

A local law enforcement officer commented, "He didn't register on my radar at all, so I walked along beside him for a while, just to make sure it wasn't a hologram or some other cheap Yankee trick."

At the end of the historic run, another observer commented, "He was so slow, I was looking for a slimey trail behind him."

The light went on simultaneously for all present.

There was a new sheriff in town.....and he was called

"The Snail of the Dragon".
