Default Getting a new bike... All comments welcome

Hi there,

I'm a noobie whos taking a course in early June. I've been looking around at bikes and will be purchasing any time now. Some questions come to mind and I hear all kinds of different opinions.

I've been thinking about an '04 model 800 Volusia. It looks awesome and have been told that it shouldn't be too much to handle for a beginner. Most people simply say to take it easy and learn the bike.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has anything to say.

Thanks,
Namron

For what its worth, I think all newbies should start on an older bike, so it doesn't break your heart so much when you drop it.

Oh, boy, here we go. Finch, if I was a moderator, I'd ban you from replying to newby threads.

Namron, welcome. You obviously need to catch up on some of the existing threads before continuing this discussion.

I got and rode an sv650 as my "trainer." I took the msf class about 6 months before I even bought my bike. Now I moved up to a m50. I agree that a used first bike is better. The sv is pretty forgiving as a learner...

i personally would get a diffient bike then the '04 volusa. why you ask???
well a friend of mine has the limited edition one. and i've driven it. the foot controls are up like a chopper style. it's like your sitting on a lazy boy!!!! the bike is very smooth. the throttle response is verty nice. not like my '87 GSXR 1100 though!!! if you have never riden a bike before then that bike would give you some problems with balance and foot placement.

get an older bike. to learn on. then once you feel confident with your skill level. then buy a new bike!! that only makes since to me. thats why i bought my '87 GSXR 1100 for my 1st sports bike.

Noooo . . . the dealerships never scam you on the maintenance when the bike's new.

Rowdy: I'll look into that suggestion.
