Default The Biker Build Off

last nights biker build off on the discovery channel was a must see for me, since rick fairless has his shop not too far from my work. i often go there to eat at his bar and grill, where his mom cooks sometimes.

but anyways. i don't know rick at all but of the two i much preferred his build over matt hotch's bike.
what made it the best to me was the use of an old triumph 650 engine. and when all was said and done the triumph kept up with the v-rod engine matt had put in his chopper.

comments?

Just like every genre that turns out to be a little bit popular, television has driven this whole "buildoff" show thing into the ground. I used to enjoy American Chopper but it's now stale and mostly re-runs anyway. And none of these builders seem to make anything even remotely practical or street legal. I watched one show where the guy's bike only got 35 miles on a tank of gas.

I still enjoy American Chopper, although it does get repetitive at times. Plus, how many theme bikes can you make?

I caught American Chopper the other night for the first time in a long time. They were building a 3rd web bike? The green and black one. It looked like they were in a totally different shop....did they move again?

Another web bike? What was wrong with the first two? Hehehehehehe. I don't know if they've moved again or not. I've only seen them move once. In the episode I saw, they destroyed the old place they were in once they moved all their stuff out.

yes they have a new shop....yes they were building the "third and final" web theme bike. it was Jr's bike...the gas tank and oil were hidden under the seat and battery i guess and where the gas tank WOULD be was just webbing and same for oil pan area. very good looking bike IMO.

they are very boring now though. they are ALWAYS on the verge of not making it in time...they are ALWAYS arguing about who does how much work and the all sound exactly the same in their tone of voice when they are describing what was going on....

as for the new shows (Build Off and Build or Bust) i like to learn about all the different builders there are out there for when i have the money to get one myself! I write down their names and then look them up on the web every now and then.

there is a guy in NYC that made a really nice one on Build Off i liked. Also the Corey Ness one with the 3 piston engine and the really radical tank shape...i got to see it in daytona. i also liked the two built in the one sunny is talking about...both were pretty cool bikes, though i liked Fairless's a little better, he didnt win.

and yeah the one buildoff had a guy who put a one gallon tank on his chopper...they had to fill up something like 24 times on the trip!! i could drive about 5000 miles on 24 tanks on my bike! (no exaggeration 24 tanks x 4 gallons x 50+ mpg).

I like these types of shows but like its been said...they are always on the verge on not making it, and they are always all pissed at each other, and the story just seems the same every time. I think all reality television is kind of stupid IMO.

Hee hee! We had that on the telly here in South Africa too! Well, it was on Discovery. My favourite was the Australian bike - all that chrome, and the tail light was excellent! Did they say which bike came in second and third of the three?

I liked the idea of the stick shift on the British bike

Its 106 miles to Chicago. We have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, its dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Hey, psycho, we're not getting back together. Now get out of my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up.

I want to see them building the engines, not just fabbing parts.
