| Dastardly villain ![]() | OK, What is the consensus on listening to mp3 players while riding. I am going to be riding 45 minutes one way to work each day and i have an mp3 player. I was just wondering what everyone thought about listening to music while riding.

| I couldn't do it. I'd be too distracted. I need to be able to hear everything that's going on around me when I'm on a bike or I get really uncomfortable.

| I tried listening to my Rio when I rode the other day. If I could have gotten the earphones to stay in my ear, I would be able to tell you how I feel about it. I really wanted to see what it would be like, but the second I put the helmet on (full face) they fell out of my ears. I thought about buying better earphones just to try it, but then I thought what if I dont like it?

| Forensic Bug Splatter Analyst. ![]() | In the city it's to distracting for me to be splitting traffic and listening to music. Riding the twisties, I get to into the music and find myself riding at my limit, not good either. For cruising down the freeways out of town or casual back road rides, it's just right.

| Personally I wouldn't even consider having music playing, want all my senses as sharp as I can get them. If you don't hear someone using their horn when you are in a cage you have a lot more protection than when you are on a bike.

| Third gear and cruising ![]() | if people like to hear whats going on around them. then how about just have one ear phone in? that way you can hear whats going on and listen to music. or would that not work?

| Muscle Biker ![]() | It just takes a bit of practice ... I don't wear earphones while riding, but I did have one a few times... My driving instructor had us (we were a group of about 4 students) each wear a receiver, and he had a microphone in his helmet and transmitter in his pocket - he would ride ahead to demonstrate something, then behind us to give each of us tips, and tell us which way to turn at the next intersection. When I took the "little" motorcycle license test (back then, it allowed me to ride a 125cc / 15hp), the inspector had me wear a backpack with the recevier in it, and the plug in one ear - he followed in a car, giving instructions and watching my riding technique. For the "big" license (unlimited HP), the inspector rides pillion, giving instructions by tapping on your shoulder and giving hand signals.

haha...i find myself singing when we are out crusing together on weekends....i get bored when we get out into nowhere and dont even hit a stopsign for half an hour so i start singing. then i laugh at myself that i am doing that! but at least noone can hear me....i wouldnt want to put anyone through that! i dont listen to music and really dont want to...i like the cycle for just having peace and quiet and the rumble of the exhaust...the car is for cranking up the music and talking on the phone. | |

| Dastardly villain ![]() | i have a chatterbox system that i was going to hook up my mp3 player to. It has a line-in for a music source and i already have earphones and a mic in my helmet. This is what has got me thinking that i'd like to maybe listen to music on my commute to work, but i still want to have my senses about me. it is nice since i wouldn't have earphones or earbuds on my per say..

I only took one test,in the UK you can either take a test on a 125 which gives you a licence that limits you to small bikes for two years or the direct access,if you are 21 or older, which you take on a 500 and the test is harder, then you can go straight onto whatever you fancy. So basically you can go from the instuctors ER500 straight to a 'busa(if you can afford the insurance, and you are mental!).

| Muscle Biker ![]() | @stevie - yea, that's how it is now in Switzerland. I took the 125 license test in November, and they changed the law the following April. So I went ahead and took the test again when I stepped up to the 1400...It only cost me a few hundred Francs more ...
