Default Weather problems

OK...so i went to pick up my license yesterday after passing the MSF course this weekend. I see that the weather is a little "iffy" for rain, but figure i will take the chance and ride the bike to work from lunch at home. Of course, it is just starting to rain NOW at 450pm.

I knew i should have stayed in the cage, but i just wanted to ride so badly....arghhh....I dont have rain gear yet so i guess i am sitting here till it stops. Dont want my leather jacket to get soaked. It is only 15 minutes, so maybe i could leave the jacket and just get wet?

I am so dumb sometimes.

Can you borrow rain gear at work?

Can you fabricate something acceptable (don't laugh now ) out of garbage bags or visqueen plastic?

Can you leave the jacket there over the weekend?

Garbage bags with duct tape always work in a pinch...

Don't worry the weather is looking up this weekend and the rain should be clearing out by tomorrow afternoon and Sunday, yes Sunday is looking like mid to high 70s with partly cloudy skies!!!! WooooHoooooo!!!!!!

I thought riding leather can be worn in rain?

It can, and once the water works its way in and saturates it, it feels like your wearing wet cardboard! Rather cold too.

everything worked out ok...it only drizzled all the way home...wasnt really that wet. the leather jacket (as in aviator style, not riding leather) was darker from water, but it (and I) survived.

I learned one thing: i dont want to ride in rain ever! roads are slick when it rains!

Hey Pinhy,

Get some rain gear, and learn to ride in the rain. You can't always pick your weather. Wait until summer ... you go out for a Gilligan ( a three hour tour) and before you know it, a thunderstorm forms over your head ...

Pinhy we live in Florida, it always rains in Florida. Damn near every summer day at 4pm it rains in Florida. Florida is one big swamp with buildings on it cause it rains so much. Florida actually means rain in Seminol. You WILL need to learn how to ride in the rain or you'll be stuck in odd places for hours till it clears.

So just increase your following distance, really slow down for corners and curves, keep the bike as upright as possible and use both brakes gingerly as you can to slow or stop. And the roads aren't nearly as slick 20-30 mins into the rain as when it first hits the ground and lifts all those sitting patches of oil, antifreeze and greese (ie Florida Ice).

Cheers!!

. . . and definitely watch the stripes on the road, they're slick enough when they're dry, and when it rains they get even slicker.

yeah intersections are the worst with the cross walks and huge turn arrows on the ground. always try to turn and ride between the lines.

Tar snakes are bad news when it rains, and even worse when it's really hot ... I was going up a hill last summer, and hit a tar snake in the middle of a curve. As Dale would say, I had to extract the seat from between my cheeks after that ride ... definitely a higher "pucker factor" on that one ...

Most tires will do decent in the rain, just don't even try to find the limit. Bad juju there.

Riding leathers may be worn in the rain as long as you take proper care of them as soon as you get home (stay away from blowdryers, seen that happen too many times).

Well good I'm glad you got out; next weekend also is looking beauty.

Remember you've got just 2 months till Bike Week too look like you know what you’re doing out there. And as a veteran of the area and scene a huge tip would be to work on your slow speed maneuvering and turning, and I do mean work on it alot!!
