Default A rider went down tonight........

So I can't image what is worst to see then a biker down lying in the road if your a rider yourself......

Tonight on my way home from work I'm coming down Colonial Dr which happens to be a 6 lane road with posted speed limits of 50mph, when I catch a glace of something in the road as a car in the center lane jibs to the right lane to miss it. As I focus on it I see it one of those temporary spare tires lying just a little bit inside the yellow dashed line. I was think phuckI hope no one hits that. No sooner then I look ahead I see a large black object lying towards the left side of the center lane, as I pass it while slowing I can see it's a body lying on its side and I see can see a helmet. Down further on the road I can see a Harley on its side with a trail of scrapes in the pavement leading back towards the rider. I pulled over and was one of the first to reach the female rider in the road; she must have gone down moments prior to me happening upon her. While running up to the body it wasn't moving and I was thinking this wasn't going to be a good night anymore.

From what I heard from an eye witness the rider hit the tire and the bike bucked her off and over the handlebars and she landed in the street and the bike slid down the road past her. She had a helmet, with a snap on shield that came off after impact, a leather jacket, leather chaps and boots but she had major facial lacerations. I could see a pooling of blood under her face lying on the pavement and hear breathing was labored and impaired by what I would assume was a broken nose and blood in the passageway. Her husband who was riding ahead of her just kneed by her side while we waited for EMS and Fire Rescue to arrive. The responding Sheriffs blocked off the streets in both ways and the spare tire not sure if this was going to be a crime scene investigation (i.e. fatal accident). A few others that came over to help knelt and prayed for the woman with the husband who began to sob for his wife Caniada (sp).

I have to say that after going down myself on Sunday seeing another rider’s body just lying in the road it was kind of surreal. However she appeared to be okay when she was loaded on the gurney and into the ambulance and hopefully she’ll make a full recovery quickly and the bike will be rebuilt too. Her husband looked lost as he was left to deal with the police when I finally got in my car and drove away.

Just had to get this off my mind............

Man. Hate to hear that. Been there and it's not a good feeling. But also glad to hear she seemed to be relatively ok in the end. Last time I had something like that happen ws a couple of years ago. Driving from Monmouth, IL back to the airport in Peoria. The ramp from Interstate 74 onto 474 sort of took me by surprise.. had a little direction change I wasn't expecting. And apparently neither was the guy on the Harley behind me. I happened to glance in the rearview mirror and realized the guy on the Harley behind me was never going to make the curve. He didn't. But like your situation, he was extremely lucky. Walked to the ambulance under his own power. But his bike was trashed.

Really a bummer that you had to see that. Please post any updates on her condition.

P.s. That font is horrible on the eyes.

Hope she heals fast. Always sucks to see it first hand, or worse, live it! Gear up and ride smart!

I hope she heals up and I feel for her husband (I have been in his shoes before).

That's horrible. Good on you for stopping though. Hopefully she recovers fully, quickly.

I'm glad you stopped Nex. A true act of compassion for your fellow (wo)man. People are a lot tougher than they appear. I hope she doesn't scar too badly.

That's a pretty crappy thing to not go back and pick up off the road, huh? I wonder if the person even knew their spare tire fell off. Kind of hard to imagine it leaving a moving vehicle quietly.

if it was a truck's spare tire carried under the bed the driver won't even miss it till s/he needs it. my ex lost a spare once and had no idea either when or where he could have lost it.

hope the lady gets well soon.

Yeah I stop at nearly every accident if the EMS/Police haven't arrived on scene if not to render aid or just redirect traffic, I just can't stand or drive by and do nothing. If someone needs help you've got to give it to them. I can only hope when I need it again others will react and move to help instead of continuing to work or home.

Yeah I was wondering where that spare tire came from and how they didn't know it fell off. Even a car hitting that would have caused and accident and more the likely involving other cars.
