Default Greetings from Florida

Hi Everyone,

It is great to find this forum. I just bought a intruder 800 and I have never owned or ridden a bike before. I am taking the safty course next weekend and I am both excited and scared about ridding, but ultimatly looking forward to it.

Rebecca

Ok, Rain stopped and things dried up so I took my first motorcycle ride (around the block) I keep stalling trying to get going from a stop and I stall when I come to a stop (are you supposed to put the bike in netural when you come to a stop), but I didn't fall, or crash, or embarass myself too badly (except to the guy on the corner with the stop sign who told me to work on simultanious cluch release and power. When I stop shaking I may go out and try it again

alrighty then sunny Florida yeah no rain... how does is feel not the stall, but the ride of course...?

coming to a stop I usually downshift then go to neutral at stop. don't worry you'll be alright just take 3 deep breathes and get back on that Iron Horse of yours... or what most people seem to do are dry runs practice the hand motions w/simultanious clutch release and power and se how that goes (as they say muscle memory).

Ride Safe... have Fun...

Well, to be honest, I had to ride it around the block because I hate being scared and I was so scared of riding. I refuse to let fear rule my life, however, I won't be riding it again until after this weekend's safty course. It is a beautiful bike and the only kind I have ever wanted, but I really respect the power it has and I need to learn more about how to use a clutch I learned today that I will be doing a lot more "around the blocks" before I actually take it somewhere LOL!

I myself am a newbie at motorcycles. I have had my 2007 kawasaki ninja 250 for about a month now and have problems with starting as well. It takes me about 4 to 5 times to get it moving till i stop again then its another 4 to 5 retry's to get it moving again. I've found if i roll it a bit it makes it a little easier. People have told me i need to learn how to time the clutch and gas as well. As far as putting the bike in neutral, that's your option but its not suggested, if you put it in neutral when stopped that leaves you open for a driver who doesn't stop to hit you, leaving it in first gear gives you time to react if this happens.
