Default Leather pants explain?

Is there a difference in 1.2mm than 1.4mm. I know there is but I assume the 1.4mm is thicker or at least better protection.

Also what soft leather pants would you recommend?

Add a leather jacket to this also. Right now I have a Icon Textile with armor

That's nice....Good for you...

My main question was that number goes along with the thickness of the leather correct?

Also wondering what brand of leather jacket to get and some pants also..I don't want something that "screams" I am wearing this brand.

Hey pug, just ignore Nexus ... he's probably having a bad-hair day.

AFAICR, there used to be a sticky here from Louis with material "abrasion tests". Try searching here or on Google. (Since switching to the new forum software, the old links don't work anymore ... damn!) I know that the BMW page (in German) also has some information, but that probably won't help you too much. Leather is the best material when you are sliding along the road - it'll protect your skin up to about 80 feet, while jeans are worn through in about 2 to 3. Since you'll usually slide along on your butt or hips, your should have leather around the lower body. For your upper body, the protectors are more important, to protect your elbows and shoulders from the impact when falling or rolling. A spine protector will help improve your quality of life after the accident.

I would recommend to get yourself a good set of leather pants, and stay with the textile jacket. Leather jackets are pretty warm and pretty heavy, and don't usually "breathe" very well. They also usually have smaller protectors, since leather gear has to sit snug on the body.

Here's a quote from our very own Uncle Bob, that he wrote over a year ago:

Of course you have to be carefull because there are a lot of types of leathers in different thicknesses and the construction of the item has a lot to do with how well it will hold up while sliding on asphalt. The best leather with seams that come apart will not protect you well. Don't have the exact numbers but I beleive that thick jeans will allow you to slide about 4 feet before abrasion wears through the material, kevlar will last about 25 feet and competition weight leather well sewn will allow you over 80 feet of sliding before wearing through.

To give you a direct answer, I believe "competition weight" leather is 1.7mm or 1.8mm thick.

I found this link with some comments about leather vs. textile gear ... maybe it'll help: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/school.htm - go to section 4 "Gear and gearing up"

Default 2 piece on ebay

The biggest difference in the .2mm of the different leathers is going to be heat transfer in a slide situation. Granted it is a little bit more padding, but not enough to really notice, that's what the internal body armor is for. The extra mm will give you so much more protection against heat transfer that it's not funny! Here's what someone found from my home forum. I personally feel that if you want leathers that a one piece is the way to go. The other side of that is that it is a give and take on comfort. If you go one piece you surely want a vented front. If you go two piece and have any intention what so ever to go to the track you want a suit that has a full zipper around the circumference of the waist. AGV makes great leathers. I have a Teknic Chicane one piece. You can find several close outs if you shop around. This is the time of season to be looking on Ebay and websites for closeout options.

By "soft leather" I'm guessing you mean designer leather, like what most casual leather jackets are made of? If that's the case they are useless in a fall, not much better if any than denim.
