If i had found a vehicle with it.. i'd bought one. But didn't happen that way for me. Learned how to drive manual by driving around a manual 4-wheeler

okay, now we have to dig up some memories................

it was the early 80's and I wanted to drive anything (didn't have a license yet) and my mother and I hopped into grandpas old dodge pickem up truck.

It was 3 on the tree, I shat you not.

My mother explained how it worked, I went through the motions (to get familiar with the pattern involved) and off we went, even though it was a couple of miles, and I learned something.

a) three on the tree is definitely something
b) a 318 under the hood of truck (1/2 ton) can get you moving and most importantly
c) when you are dealing with a vehicle with a sticky throttle, try not to hit the gas at the wrong time.

that was a cool truck.

but I had a lot of experience driving tractors (that were older than dirt) before I drove the truck and you learn all kinds of things; like how to anticipate the unantipateable - just trust me on that one.

My first car was a '74 Mercury Cougar - with an automatic transmission. My 2nd car was a '74 VW Beetle with a manual 4-speed tranny. I've had several other cars since then, some automatics and some manuals. My current ride has a 6-speed manual transmission. If Audi had offered the A3 TDI quattro with an automatic, I would have bought it. (The salesman told me if I wanted an automatic, I would have to buy the A4 quattro. The A4 is too wide to fit in my parking space in my garage...)

I learned to drive on an automatic but once I learned a manual transmission I have had no interest in ever going back. I just enjoy the extra control that a manual offers. Driving is fun for me and an automatic takes away some of that fun.

I feel like this is even more true with motorcycles. If you simply use a motorcycle for an economical way to get from A to B then I understand the automatic transmission a little more but isn't half the fun of riding a motorcycle actually operating it? I know thats a huge part of what I enjoy; you can always ride on the back of a motorcycle if you dont want to actually learn how to operate it. How do others feel?

a motorcycle as an economical way to get from a to b, no, I don't get it.

and as for

I think that truck's older than an 83, like a 78, maybe older.

But those old trucks do fair all in all, just not so good for daily driving.

Honda didn't get to where they are by not trying the ridiculously crazy from time to time.
