Ask the guys in the '50 forum whether there's a robust relayed (not on when the key is off) circuit somewhere near the front end. Otherwise, you'll need to get an automotive relay from a parts store and we'll run off the battery and pull a control voltage off the lighting somewhere.

If this still isn't making sense, do a bit of Googling on motorcycle relay auxilliary fuseblock etc. etc.

You need to tap power for the heated grips off a wire (headlight, tail-light, etc) that only hot (has power) when the ignition switch is on, as opposed to running power straight from your battery, running power straight from your battery would work just fine, until the time you forget to turn it off and drain all the juice out of your battery resulting in you not being able to start your bike.

I know what needs to be done, and would offer to help, except me & motorcycle wiring have this agreement where I don't mess with it, and it doesn't crap out on me in the dead of night out in the middle of B.F.E.

All this talk of heated grips and jackets...reminds me of why I moved to Atlanta. It was cold and rainy tonight for the ride home from the bar- so cold I actually had to put on a long sleeve t-shirt.

That's far too warm for me! In the dead of summer when everyone is on 2 wheels - I'm in my cage with the air on. When it gets cold and everyone get's in their cars - I get on the bike. I HATE sweating. It drives me nuts!

I didn't get to ride in today. Little sad but better I didn't.

I'll admit I've been lax on chain adjustment and realized yesterday that wow I needed to fix this a long time ago. In the 20 minutes I had to work with before beverages and pizza. Yup can't get the chain to tighten up so either I #1 screwed something up last time and really broke something or #2 Need to replace chain ect ect or #3 I'm legally retarded.

I'm thinking you must have screwed something up, because the Hamsters that provide power to that dinky thing you call a motor don't have enought umph to stretch your chain.

Got up this morning and walked out of the bedroom then four feet across the hall into my office. No motorcycle ride to work, no cold weather gear, no fun.

I'm a structural engineer for a manufacturing company located 500 miles from where I live, so I work out of my house. Business is way down so now I'm mostly what you would call semi-retired. Made for a good summer of riding though.

time to get another chain; they aren't that expensive, are they?

or the sad reality that one little piece is missing, somehow and now you need to go find another one like it.

I remember on the old cb 750 - there were two pieces (one on each side) that were about the size of a silver dollar and had to fit in just so before putting the whole thing together.

Good quality chain & sprockets: +/- $200.

I kinda came to that conclusion when I looked that I nearly have 21k on the stock chain. But something just doesn't seem right about it right now. I'm also god awful tired and feel like poo right now.
