I might just get an inline lamp switch and connect it where it will be protected by my jacket. Most are only 3A, though.

Clint didn't you get the plug in on/off switch with your jacket liner, the guy at Mudspringers said that's supposed to come with it, and I got one when I bought my gloves for in case I ride one of the other bikes that don't have heated grips, I'll have mine with and if Jason isn't using it you can, also I'll ask Nels if he has a spare he can bring with.

If I did it's still in a pocket somewhere.

I checked with Jason and he said if I'm not going to wear the gloves than he definitely wants to, so the on/off switch will be in use, sorry.

Hey Clint, I'm from St. Cloud too. I think this fall will be one where we will be able to ride into December! The weather forecast models are indicating above average temps around here for the months of Nov., Dec., and January. I like the fact that we are getting a lot of rain now as opposed to snow later. Its fun to suit up and go for a ride and will do so if the temps are in the 20's and above. I just check to make sure the roads are ok. |

FWIW, I don't wear heated clothing either. I wear a wind breaking outer layer i.e. leather, neoprene, with insulation layers underneath. For the hands, I wear a leather glove with gauntlets and thinsulate. When its really cold, I'll add some cotton glove liners that I picked up for a couple bucks at Fleet Farm....works pretty well.

BTW, I'm in St. Cloud as well. Now that we have four in the area we're gonna have to plan a ride afore the snow flies.

my dilema is the route to work is about 30 minutes; by the time you put on and remove all the warm clothes, I've almost doubled my commute.

| Howdy back atcha. Like Vinnie said, it's about longevity as much as anything. My morning commute is 35 minutes at speed.

My core started to get a little chilled towards the end of the day yesterday - that was with Carhartt's, leather coat with liner, and rain gear. I've got an electric coat on the way, and am debating between the gloves and pants as being the next on my wishlist. I'm leaning more towards gloves at the moment. I know Clint suggested grip heaters to me, but I can't see how that would do anything for the tops of the fingers.

I have both heated grips, and heated gloves, both work about the same for keeping your hands warm, the grips are a lot more convenient because you don't have to monkey around with plugging anything in, but you do need to keep both hands on the bars at all times for them to work, I'm thinking of getting some of the stand alone gloves that have a rechargeable battery pac that is supposed to be good for 3 to 4 hours on high, and up to 12 hours on low.

I like grips due to the simplicity. Plugging in the jacket is almost too cumbersome, but it's certainly worth it. I wouldn't like to deal with glove wires. I've found that the intense warmth of the jacket (with sleeve heat) goes a long way to keep my hands warm. I rode in this morning with my race-style leather gloves and my grips on low and never felt the least bit cold in the fingers. It was foggy and 36F.

Oh wow - the grip heaters are quite a bit more affordable then I anticipated. I'll definitely be getting a set of those, and if I still want gloves after that - so be it. Could I convince one of you fine folk to install these for me if I come to you?

I'd be glad to help, time permitting. You'd want to make a wiring plan ahead of time. You want them on a relayed circuit so you don't kill your battery.
