Will do. I'm singing a different tune about that stuff they coated HWY 10 with this summer. Should be great for went/frosty grip, at least until the plows scrape it off.

Yep, it's still coming down. Not a pounding but hard and cold enough to be miserable at any speed.

they're predicting rain 4 out of the next 5 days; being dry this time of year doesn't really make a big impact other than a slight increase in grass fires.

I am one happy fella. First, the ride home was great. I arrived bone dry and comfortably warm, despite constant moderate rain, gusty wind, and plenty of traffic spray.

Second, my Gerbings liner arrived, and it fits perfectly. Furthermore, it fits under the liner of my riding jacket. I really thought I was going to have to take the insulating liner out, but I have on a cotton t-shrt, a long-sleeve t-shirt, the Gerbings liner, and my Joe Rocket jacket with the liner, and I'm not feeling restricted at all. Win!

Now I'm confident I can make the long ride to the Slimey Crud rally in comfort. Sweeeet.

I had to pull my battery tender pigtail for now, but hooking up the Gerbings was just a matter of substituting their pigtail. I had a tendar/Gerbings converter plug in my ebay list last week and didn't bother, not knowing when I'd have the jacket. Wish I'd bought it. Not really a big deal, though.

So I turn on the bike and plug the jacket in. Wait a while. Maybe this is a gradual heating process? Is that some heat I feel? Not sure.

I take a look at the power distribution block and realize there are two sockets for some reason. I was in the wrong one. switched it over and the heat was almost immediate. Within 30 seconds I'm feeling like a bun in the oven. I can see why the controller is important. Maybe I can put a switch inline for now.

Looking forward to tomorrow's commute. Bring it on, Ma Nature!

You'll probably find out that with a 3 way switch and a high power 9 ohm resistor you can probably achieve the same thing.

like a 1 watt 9 ohm resistor - but that would require that you are do inclined.

Get the controller- it is the difference between a light bulb on a dimmer switch that you can set at the level you want, and a 150 watt one on an on-off switch that is too bright or not on at all. Wear just one layer between the heat and your skin, and set it where you are comfortable.
Oh, the second plug is so you can plug pants liners into the jacket liner and run them both off the same pigtail and controller.

Yeah, I'm sure I'll end up with the controller eventually. I have to take it a step at at im. In the meantime, bring on the lightbulb!

Wow. I got off the bike feeling like I'd been in a hot tub the whole way. Did I say wow?

With your pansy-ass commute one good fart in your riding pants should do the job.

HA! A $280 coat for $130! The wife was alright with a $150 savings, and I just ordered my first ever electric coat. No chance of it being here in time for this weekend, but I'll have something to look forward to now. I'm so excited! Now I just need to get a dimmer switch thing for cheap and I'll be set!

Thanks for that website Clint - too bad I found out about it so late in the week, but better late then never though!

Christmas in October!

I'm thinking of doing the poor-man's hi/lo switch, or just an on-off switch. Right now, I take it as long as I can, then pull the plug until I stop again.

How did you arrive at 9 ohms? I've read that a series of diodes are better since they won't get as hot. Maybe that's not a factor if it's out in the open.

actually you'd have to use an ohm meter and measure the resistance of the heating element.

then, if you only wanted half of the energy to go into the vest, get a resistor of equal resistance (9 ohms was probably high). The problem being is that now the resistor will dissipate that heat. And there would be diodes involved as well, now that I think of it.

maybe a switch would be better; and find a way to locate it on the handlebars somewhere.

and label it "ejection seat" to make it a conversation piece to boost.
