I want to thank everyone for the prayers, kind words & good thoughts, I just got back form the hospital and brother Bill is coming along real good on his recovery, he is able to get out of bed by himself, and go for short walks down the hall, the talk is that they will be letting him out of the hospital early next week.

He's still a little fuzzy on how the whole thing went down, and a big part of the mystery is how little damage there is to the bike, I went up and got the bike last Monday, and it's hard to tell it was even in an accident, it has a bent shift lever, a broken clutch perch, and one broken turn signal, it started on the first kick, and we rode the darn thing back to our cabin, $50 worth of parts and it will be good as new.

At first I was thinking that the deer must have tried to jump over my brother, and he caught it full in the chest and than went down, and that's still a strong possibility.

The other possibility is that he locked up the rear brake, slid the bike out putting it down on it's left side, and slid mostly under the deer, but again hitting the deer mostly with his body.

I'm leaning towards the second scenario, mostly because of the condition of the deer, it has a big hole punched in it's chest, and the only way I can figure that could have happened is when the bike went down on it's left side the front wheel would have been turned to the left and the right side of the handlebars would have been leading in the slide, and the handlebar is the only thing on the bike, or my brother that's sturdy enough to punch a hole like that in a deer without being busted up itself.

I guess it doesn't really matter, but it does seem strange that the impact killed the deer, put my brother in the hospital near death, and didn't hardly hurt the bike at all, go figure.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for all the support, I really appreciate it.

I'm glad he's feeling better. Good news for sure.

That does sound weird about the bike though. Last year I did a relatively slow lowside into a ditch that totaled my bike.

That's good news to hear he is on the mend. We will keep him in our prayers to keep up a speedy recovery. I think the ribs will keep him on the pain meds for a while though.

Rick...

Does this make sense?

If he locked the back brake and was going down, and then the bike high-sided, and threw him off? And then the bike hit the deer and minimized the damage to the bike?

Wow, sorry i'm late, but i'm glad your bro is doing better. I've got a friend just learning to ride. I'll pass this story on the next time i have to tell him to wear his helmet.

Good to hear he is recovering, Rick.

We are still pulling for him, just in case.

I can see where that would explain it too.

We’re still hoping for a full recovery, but right now he is back in the hospital, he started bleeding internally again, and got some sort of infection, so it’s still not over yet.

He probably should have stayed in the hospital a bit longer in the first place, but he talked the doctors into releasing him so he could be with our mother who was in another hospital, Mom had been fighting lung cancer for quite some time and lost the battle the same day Bill got released, sadly he never got to see her before she passed, the last two weeks have with out a doubt been the worst of my life, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get any better any time soon, because now Dad is sick too.

Keep the good thoughts coming.

This is a crazy year...

A friend from another forum lost her mom back in February, and lost her dad last month. She's in shock. And if that all wasn't enough, she's getting married in September...!

Sorry to hear about your loss, Rick!
