Sorry, I wasn't paying attention. Hangover from last night.... Just looked at your potential bike. I think you might want to get a windshield.

Making preparation for my iron butt run tomorrow....

Yeah, twice already, plus three 800-mile-per-day and three 600-mile-per-day runs.

That's good advice. It's surprising how that stuff can add up to a sizable sum and it's better to get it sooner rather than later.

seriously....
when i got my bike i bought gloves($80), jacket($300) and helmet ($340)
I turned around and bought a pair of boots ($200)

it's gonna be roughly $1000

recently i bought the olympia jacket and pants and a helmet ($1300) and then another pair of boots ($200) and another pair of gloves ($50)

heh.. thinking about it, i think i put more money in gadgets and gear than the bike actually cost.

I have my gear, except a good pair of boots and a helmet.

And it really is, seriously, one purchase at a time folks. I don't really have the money to do this anyhow. So I'll take my cake as it's being given to me. I'm not going to assume that this will even work.

I wonder how may of us go cheap on the pants and are sorry. I know I did and I was. Just a reminder, jeans aren't good enough.

I'm finally upgrading to Cordura pants with armor.

We had this old adage "Buy the gear first, then the bike." I'd still say this holds true today.

Yup, one thing at a time. I understand. After two seasons I still don't have all I should have, so it's a 'do as I say and not as I do' thing. It's not that I'm cheap (well Ok I am) it's that I can't find stuff that fits.

I hope your bike deal works out.

My gear is from British Motorcycle Gear. These are the Pioneer Pants I have of theirs (the first pair on the page), and this is the Mercury jacket I have. They threw in all the padding for free for me, so I have a back pad, knees and hips, I believe. I also have their Thermosport gloves. I bought them all at the show, and they were the ones who (I think) would have walked around with me at the show, telling me this and that about bikes had it not been for the fact that they were vendors there. They were extremely helpful, and I ended up getting all of that for 300 bucks So, it was a good day for me.

Now, I just need a helmet, which I'm going to head out to Cycle Gear here in Charleston today to check costs and fits, etc; and boots, which I will also check out there. I would LOVE these pair of boots, but we'll see about the pricing of other ones first.

I'm cheap too, but I'm smart (usually) about my purchases -- unless of course I'm in VS, in which case, I'm not responsible for my binge buying there. I believe now that I just go into a haze and walk out with a big bag of things, and go "Crap! What have I done?!"

Erin, your gear looks real good to me. You're going into this the right way, congrats.

Oh, and now that I've figured out what you meant by VS, I agree with Rick.

true... everything is so much more expensive...
$80 gloves here... $44 in the US go figure.

then again... i have 3 jackets, 3 helmets, 5 pairs of gloves, 2 pairs of boots, 2 pairs of pants, 2 rainsuits, 2 visors for each helmet... so that's just the gear..

then you add on luggage, GPS, aux lighting, grips, seats, sissy bar, rack and all kinds of do-dads... it's gets pricey.. heh.
