Um . . . yeah . . . please keep this on topic. No need to comment negatively about anyone's ride.

Just to be clear Tim, you can razz me all you want but insult my wife and we will have issues.

A good majority of folks are very ignorant and judgmental (in a joking way that I have no appreciation nor tolerance for ) when it comes to marriages involving foreigners. Over the past several years I have gained an intimate knowledge as to the issues that interracial couples face. I get this ignoramus S**T all the time as well as my wife. She is now very reluctant to make friends with folks and in general she feels that Americans are mean, rude and highly judgmental, gotta agree with her there. I spend a good deal of time just consoling her, letting her know that she is loved and very much accepted. She is probably the kindest and most gently soul I have ever encountered.

It's all good man.

To clarify....my intent was to align my statement in response to a string of posts that she's a special woman to put up with you.

In my lame attempt to be funny....

I pictured you sitting in a chair by your Franklin stove writing out a list of your personality traits then consulting a catalog and choosing based on your compatibility needs. No different than a personal ad, or eHarmony, or Match dot com in my eyes. Whether the above hurts my case or helps it...I don't know, I'm just being honest. But my crummy choice of words in an attempt to be funny, and lack of proper setup to reveal my mindset was obviously a failure. I meant no disrespect to you, nor your wife, and I sincerely apologize if I have offended you. Over the course of a couple of years. We've traded jokes, posts, and occasionally stood on opposite sides of an argument, conversely we've stood on the same side of arguments. Though we've never met, I value you as a person, and consider you as a friend. So once again. I apologize.

Sounds like you two are doing fine in not letting this subject become a problem here, so maybe I shouldn't stick my nose in, but you know me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I like to stick my nose in.

I've never met Tim, but to me he seems to be an honest straight forward kind of guy and I think we would get along great in person....... We may get the chance to meet this summer if funds allow me to take a trip to Key West that I have been wanting to do, I'm looking forward to meeting him.

Vinniy I have met in person, I spent several days riding with him, Clint, and Tricker on a cross country ride from Mn down to Tn where we had a chance to ride a lot of the roads around the famous Tail of the Dragon (Deals Gap) we also had a chance to meet about a dozen other MJ members that had ridden there from other parts of the country.......A fun time was had by all.

During that ride I got to know Vinnie & we easily became friends, it was during that time that he told me (us) about his courtship with his wife, I already knew that she was Russian, but I had no idea what the circumstances of their meeting was, he shared some of the more interesting stories with us, and I must say it sounded like a problematic but magical experience to me, made me wish I had the nerve to do the same.

Anyway, as great as his stories were, they really didn't do the lady herself justice. I got a chance to meet her soon after we returned from the Dragon trip, and I have no qualms in stating that I was bowled over, Vinney's description of her "She is probably the kindest and most gently soul I have ever encountered." is right on the money, but not being a braggart he left out a few traits that I noticed, not the least of witch is her physical beauty, closely followed by her quick wit, and charming sense of humor, but if all the rest of her lovely traits don't win you over, her enchanting Russian accent would, I could sit and listen to her talk for hours.

I can't imagine the type of ignorant personality it would take to be mean to her, and I apologize for any and all that have made her feel unwelcome, and I sincerely hope she doesn't include me on that list.

Seems to be a case of humor not translating well over the internet. Hopefully all ends well.

You could always chrome out your couch or recliner.

Sounds like a fair compromise, to me.

No apology necessary Rick, you have always been kind and considerate when it comes to Oksana. I have been amazed by just how much animosity still exists toward people from the FSU (Former Soviet Union). Oksana gets foul comments darn near daily.

After five years of comments I have come to the point of essentially smacking folks that make comments directed toward her. Most don't man up and apologize like Tim did. IMO, these days it takes a sincere and strong person to publicly apologize. Thanks again Tim!!

Now can we please get back to discussin' frickin' bikes???

BTW, had a beer with Clint tonight. We are both looking forward to the SW WI ride!!

Yeah, and some folks think calling a black man a "nigger" is funny. Usually does not translate well in any circumstance. Ignorance is occasionally the culprit but I have found that more often than not that it is just mean spirited. In the world of foreign marriages it is almost always translated as "prostitute". Mike, imagine someone suggesting your wife is a whore on a frequent basis, how would you respond???? I am willing to wager that you would not laugh it off!! Gotta "C" note right here.

Actually the process is quite involved. You must petition the USCIS. A background check is done. If I have a record the petition is denied. If she has a record the petition is denied. A medical check is done by a U.S. certified doctor in her country $100/ person. If she does not pass the petition is denied. She is interviewed privately by the U.S. consulate in her area. Proof of relationship MUST be established. You MUST supply proof of visitation (for me it was 5 visits the last was to escort her and the kids to the U.S.), plane ticket stubs, hotel receipts, train tickets, photos of the two together, translated love letters over time (just one will not do), phone records over time (one call will not do) , and yes they asked her straight out if she loves me. Upon arrival to U.S. soil inside the airport there is another interview and check of medical and police reports otherwise no stamp of approval and she goes back home. If she has no x-rays she goes home. You MUST marry within 90 days otherwise she is deported. After two years you MUST again prove, (via personal interview about 2 hrs) to the USCIS that you have a valid marriage. Both must be on bank records, phone bills, cable bills, credit card bills, electric bills, and they asked her again if she loves me, they asked me if I love her, they ask the kids if they see a loving relationship, etc.... After all this you can relax for 10 years and do it all again when the green card expires.

Imagine if all marriages had to go through this process. FWIW the divorce rate for foreign marriages in the U.S. (last I read anyway) was around 12%. American men such as myself are seeking a mate with traditional conservative values, something, IMO, is greatly lacking of single women of my generation.

As you said, some things are not funny, and I agree. Sometimes people are just not informed, some are just plain mean, and sometimes we just unwittingly step in it. I know I have on occasion.

What I was thinking about in my comment about the internet is that things said in a group of guys with a wink and a nod and is immediately answered with a "you're full of crap" and it's done, is not necessarily something that will work online. After all we don't really 'know' each other, don't know personal situations, about wives, kids, families, jobs, no jobs, young, or old, and so on. I've had to go back through this thread a couple of times because I could tell from comments that I had missed something.

It sounds like you and your wife have a great marriage and I'm glad to hear it. Good for you, in this country it doesn't always work out that way.

I understand the wink and nod bit and in this case I would say it was simply a matter of misinformation. Tim is a heck of a good guy and I would ride with him anytime. Still I have grown to have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to my wife. Don't S**T on my treasure. Wink and nod all you want dealing with me personally, call me a moron with an and all is fine by me, I do the same on occasion. I know that I would never involve other forum buddies family members, your kids, your wife, etc. Just a line I won't cross.
