| I am curious how and when, people started riding. Was it a father bonding experience for you? Or were you a rebel? Did not know why, but every time you saw a pack of riders going by, good unusually excited. Perhaps, you needed a more efficent style of transportation.

| I took my course last fall (2003). For me, it was just an interest that popped up late (I'm now 30). And the main reason (or maybe I'm just rationalizing here We have only one vehicles and the wife takes for her work and to transport our daughter to school.

| Goes back to when I was about 5 or 6 years old and my dad used to ride me around the yard on his old Indian. Which did not make my dear mother happy. Never lost the attraction I had to bikes from those days, but never bought one until I was 18. When I got to college, I quickly realized that, in a small college town, a motorcycle was far more convenient in terms of parking and just getting from campus to my apartment.

| Almost the same as Louis (wife , two daughters, one minivan). I rode dirt (dual ..XL 75 & dad rode a c 70 trail...cool bike) when I was a kid. I tried a second car (beater) and put so much into repairs that I got fed up. Sold it and saved the $$ for a bike. Took me about a year to decide and can't believe I didn't do it sooner. Still have to bum rides in the winter. |

| I can't really put my finger on it . . . if I have to pidgeon-hole my biking wants, I'd have to give the same answer I do for why I joined the fire department: The equipment. I mean, seriously, as an engineer and a lover of all things mechanical (I even love weedeaters Look at it. It's all engine and necessary support equipment. Not built for comfort, rather more like a Porsche (at least sportbikes), built with efficiency in mind. Like fire trucks. They're all different for a reason. They all have a specific purpose that they were designed for. The guy that designed it had an end purpose in mind (that didn't involve comfort). So my answer is "because bikes are so mechanically kewl."

| Tin Foil Inspector ![]() | Meatman... that was beautiful. MY own reason deviates from that a bit. Actualy I got many reasons. I can't afford, and can NEVER afford a McLaren f1, a Ferrari 360 Modena or even a Dodge Viper, but I can afford a small bike that is faster than any of those vehicles to about 130 mph... and I have no business ever goign faster than that. I have no business bringing the bike to it's limit, but knowing that I can is... classy and makes me exited. Better feul economy than any sports car. Chicks dig bikes, friends dig bikes. Easier to park at my college, no longer wiating 40-60 mins in line, they got parking spaces just for motorcycles. I can sleep in longer. Lane sharing on congested freeways... I'll never have to deal with rush hour again. I actually started with dirtbikes, but I only had 1 reason to start with those: Dirt bikes are fun!

| Muscle Biker ![]() | Used to have a Vespa 50ccm to commute to/from work in summer. After divorcing and moving from Germany to Switzerland, I sold the Vespa and picked up a bigger bike (Honda 125). After 2 years, I moved about 20 km outside the city, and needed a bike that could handle the Autobahn. That's why I bought the GSX 1400. At first, it was just convienence (since the ex always had the car), later it became a passion. I plan to keep riding as long as my body and mind allow (hopefuly another 25 years or so!)

| When my Dad was my age 20 he had a bike and loved it. He never really lost the desire to ride, always metioning it in passing here and there, and now I never really cared till I moved to AZ and had to sell my car. I just started looking at them and fell in love with the thought. Now I am on the road to getting one.

| For me it started when I was 10 and got a minibike I have been hooked ever since. My Mom and Dad were completely against it so I guess there is some rebel in there. You don't really appreciate shocks till you get them for the first time. As for the chicks they come and go but the bike is forever.

| First rode a mini bike in 1974, and one of my dad's friends rode a BMW when I was a kid. We visited out of state relatives in 1976, and my uncle had a Harley bagger. His son took me for a ride on his street bike, and I was hooked. I gave up dirt bikes in 1983 when I bought a rigid frame Harley Sporster chopper rat bike for my 16th birthday. Been in the wind ever since- 24 years and well over a half million miles, owning a car maybe 6 of those 24 years.
