| 1st Installment Well my wife and I were able to take the trip to Big Bend, along with 3 other KLR riders. One was from my neck of the woods (the DFW area) the other two were from Abilene. We left on Saturday evening and arrived in the Bad Lands just as the sun was coming up. This was our first look at were we were going to be spending the next week. ![]() Here is the prerequisite tourist photo; from this point to the First Rangers Station is over 30 miles. The only thing in between is a shack where they collect your money and a Border Patrol station. ![]() Another shot of the entrance. ![]() Our Camp Site was 5 miles from the Ranger Station at Panther Junction which was the closest place with restrooms and to get drinking water. There was also a Convenience store and gas station there. One of the guys in our group was very familiar with the park so we relied on him to plan the daily treks. The rides varied from about 40 to 90 miles on unimproved four wheel drive roads/trails. ![]() O the first day we went up to an area called Pine Canyon and then we went into the Chisos Basin. Here we are parked at the start of the Pine Canyon trail we were waiting on the other two to catch up. |
