Default Bike Safety

Would you people here feel safe bringing a brand new GS500F to college with them. I am a junior at a major university 40,000+. Theres a crusier thats been here the last month or so, so I feel confident. But can you trust drunk college kids. Anyone have any prior experiences?

Jeff

Drunk college kids and bikes? No f$%^ing way! They don't mix.

I go to a major univ. also, but I'm on a side of the campus which is far away from the undergrad drunks.

As I drive to school and get on the street with all the housing I pass an older katana every day that's parked on a curb. It appears to have no anti theft device on it either. It's been there for over 2 years now every day almost. I also see the same bikes parked every day in the parking structures. My school is supposedly one of the top party schools in the US or something equating to alot of drunk kids wandering around aimlessly. I guess it's safe, I have an alarmed disk lock on my bike though when it's parked... but I don't live on campus or near it.

Yup, that pretty much describes SDSU.

Oh my GOD, that was a brutal hijacking... Back to the point - Take your bike to school. Don't worry about college kids stealing it, per se, just worry about them wanting to sit on it... Especially when you're not around. Try to find a place to park it inside (at home) if possible, and when you take it out, just make sure it's parked somewhere safe and stable.

When I was in college, there was designated parking for bikes around campus - and usually a helluva lot more convenient than cage parking. At my apartment, I parked under the breezeway right at the front door.

Once and only once did someone plop down on mine without asking. Happened to be my roommates girlfriend. Wearing shorts. And totally ignorant of the effect of hot pipes on bare skin. Until right then. I was not sympathetic.
