| In India, the Samurai is a 2-stroke 100cc naked bike. Little commuter, basically. Think late '60's early 70's US with electric ignition. Or look here: http://auto.indiamart.com/motorcycle...uzuki-samurai/ If you're hung up on the idea of a crotch rocket, I'd stay small. Your old Samurai had less than 8hp and maxed out at around 55 or 60mph. The Katana has... well, not sure, but a helluva lot more than 8hp. Have you even considered the GS500? Yes, you have experience riding, but from where I sit you're not just changing style of bike, you're pretty well jumping a couple or three decades in technology and performance. Be careful.

| This is my first year riding. I started with a 1995 katana 600. I think it is a great bike to start with if you can take it easy. Its not the fastes bike out there but it still has a lot of power. I love mine I have put 2000 miles on it in 2 and a half months.

| well, what are you going for? speed? looks? practicality? if you are going for speed and looks, be smart and safe, be very hard on yourself to not just open it up, and get a gsx-r600. if you want practicality, go for more of the sport tourer. look at the katanas. it depends on your budget, and what yo are looking for. above all, remember. wear a helmet and a jacket at least.

| The fact that you have riding experience can either be bad or good. You may have learned some skills, yet you may have developed some bad habits. The Katana might be a good choice, but be sure to get some training along with it. Quote:

| Newbie | I started on a 1996 Bandit 600 and now have a 04 SV650s - Start with a 500cc or a 600cc bike. The new GS500 looks pretty cool actually...
