Default Cold weather riding ?

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a comfortable face mask or neck covering? I bought a cheep on form the local dealer but it is very uncomfortable. Also any tricks to keep the inside of my helmet from fogging up?I live in northern Ohio and the mornings are starting to get a little cold. Thanks

Check a snowmobile supply store. They have helmet liners that cover your neck. I've read a cleaning with ordinary shaving cream helps with fog. Haven't tried it yet. Don't shave. Beard is over 7 feet long. Gets caught in the chain. I should really get a shaft drive bike. FJR?

Ever heard of a NECK GAITER? Mine works very, very well. Do a search or take your pick from this site:

Can't get colder than here turtlescape. I rode in this morning, it was about 7 Celsius, 43F , and LOTS of fog. The high for today is 18C (or 65F).

I just put on my bandana around my neck instead of on my head.

My textile jacket has a line than I just zip in, and I'm wearing my rain suit pants to cut down the wind.

Now I just warmer gloves...

I'm gonna try RainX on the outside of the visor but for the inside, I'm looking for ideas too.

Louis...

Have you ever tried the RainX Anti-Fog. Some here on the site say it works very well but I tried it on the inside of my clear shield & it made no difference.

Pardon me for forgetting to put the "?" behind my aforementioned question.

I find a simple scarf works well. I use one about 6' long wrap around neck, them let the tails down in front on my chest under my Leather Jacket.

As I am reading this it comes to mind that some excellent solutions may lay within the sport of paintball. I don't play anymore but I was heavy into it at one time.
They make nice thick neoprene masks that cover from your nose down that velcro on and off. They are made to absorb PB hits to the neck (those REALLY hurt) so they are thick and flexible and are only about $15 as I remember.
For fogging, a trick we used to use on cool mornings to prevent goggles from fogging was to use a very very thin coating of dishwashing detergent. You pour it straight on and then wipe as much as you can off without buffing just leaving a film. It doesn't distort the view, all but eliminates the fog and makes cleanup easier too
There are also a couple of good sprays that work very well on plastic lenses.

Maybe google "Paintball supplies" or Paintball gear" and see what that turns up??

I've got a wind triangle from Aerostich - it's soft fleece on one side, Gore-tex on the other, with velcro to fasten it around your neck. It's simple, comfy and it can go around my neck, or up over my nose, bandit style. Between that and my anti-fog deflector in the helmet, I don't fog up like I used to.

I love the stuff Aerostich has - I have their elkskin roper gloves, too! I can't afford one of their suits, but at least I can get decent accessories from them!

Yeah, they've got great riding gear...a lot of people around here have their stuff...since they are located in Duluth and all...it's a quick 3 hour ride up there and we usually go a few times a year.

Thanks I will have to order from Aerostich. I think I may try a pair of the elkskin roper gloves also. They look a little warmer than the mechanix wear gloves I have been riding with.

For stopping your visor from fogging up, spray the inside with Pledge furniture polish and the wipe it off with a soft cloth. I use it all of the time for my visor on my hockey helmet and it works better and is cheaper than the stuff that the sell specifically for fogging.

They also sell liners for gloves, pretty cheap. A pair of handguards on your grips would also help keep your hands a lot warmer! My elkskin gloves have a small visor wiper on the left index finger, too. A nice little bonus I've been glad to have on misty days!

I've used Rain-X (the original stuff) for 20-some-odd years, and even use the Rain-X washer fluid and glass cleaner. Have used it on everything from car windshields (imagine that) to motorcycle helmets to the old Bells my step-father and I used when we were racing F-Prod in SCCA 20+ years ago. But I've never had much success with the anti-fog. I have noticed that the label states "do not use on plastic unlesss preapproved by the manufacturer of the pastic to be treated." Maybe that's got something to do with it?
