i own an auto shop, yesterday i had a couple (man and woman) stop by my shop with a flat tire (rear) on her sportster 1200. I do not do tire repairs at my shop. I called the dealer that i bought my bike from and also buy auto parts from as well. I asked the service manager if he could repair a tire and he replied with,is it off the bike? i said no. I have a lift at my shop specifically for routine maintenance and cleaning of my bike, but had never used it for removing wheels. well it got used for that yesterday, i pulled the rear wheel off the bike and gave the gentleman my truck to transport the tire to the dealer. here's were it gets sad. the dealer didn't have to do any of the labor of removing the tire or putting it back on and aligning the belt and charged the guy 268.00 for a rear tire!!!! it was a standard size 130/90/16. anyway ,he got the tire back to the shop and we reinstalled, aligned the belt and got him on the road again. The couple was from ohio and were visting michigan's upper penninsula. I think that the dealer was way out of line and i'll never send anyone to them for emergency repairs again, it almost seems like they have two different price lists. The gentleman offered me money for my shop time but i couldn't bring myself to accept it after i recommended my dealer for his tire repair, which ended in a new tire purchase. i just told him to take care of someone else on the road if he could be of help to them.
