Default Baffles vs. Straight Pipes

Is it necessary to have baffles? Some say you need back pressure, so you need some sort of baffle. However, many have straight pipes.

I have the big radius V&H pipes on my deuce and I took the baffles out. Been hell rid'n.... straight pipe... for a couple months now, it’s "Loud as Hell" and I love it.

I am concerned if there is truth in needing baffles. Will it harm the motor? Makes sense that some back pressure is needed; however, people have been riding their scoots for years with straight pipes.

I thought maybe I could get some answers here vs. googling (seems all the forum related to dealers, opt for baffles.. Y.., of coarse.. They have something to sell).

Would appreciate some wisdom.

Thanks,
Jillian
