Also, your suspension may not be right either. Make sure your sag is set correctly. If your preload is too light the bike will move around more and the chassis will not be as settled as it should and make it hard to be smooth. Especialy if it is set differently frount to rear. Once you get that set, you can start working on dampening settings. This is a good place to start:http://www.sportrider.com/tech/motor...ion/index.html Also, if you are about the same size/weight of the test ridders in Sport Rider, you can try the suggested settings they have listed.

| Did you lose the front or the back? Did the front fold under, or did the rear spin out? 1st gear way leaned over is always really tricky. 2nd would have ended up with a lot less initial hit. "Practicing" on the street is risky. You might want to get a dirt bike and learn to ride more agressively, rather than end up in somebodies grill.

| One more thought for ya. I ride through a roundabout every day. One of the interesting problems is that ALL dirt and grime/sand/crap gets pushed out to the outside of the turn and will deposit itself right on the exit line if your a little wide on the way out. I tend to stay well away from the outside edges for that reason. (Trivia: was reading "Performance Bikes" out of England a few years ago and they were giving up "trade secrets" and one thing they admited was that most of thier crazy "full lean/knee down" shots were taken in roundabouts at fairly low speeds!) |

| Wow thanks guys that's a lot to think about. I actually was looking through the turn/circle, that's one of the things I was trying to work on. Yeah, I think I might need to fork out the cash to have my suspension professionally tuned. I tried to do it myself, and the suspension feels WAY better than stock, but I'm sure could use a lot of improvements. Those sportrider suspension settings are actually the ones I used to get started! I lost the back, the bike spun out. And yes, it is VERY risky practicing on a street. I tried to pick the least busy street I knew about near my house. Although I've only got about 9,000 miles under my belt, I think it might already be time for me to do a trackday. I think that when the cars started to come closer, I glanced at them rather than the line I was trying to make, and this made me go a little wide, and that's probably where I hit the gravel. That's good to know that the gravel/dirt/stuff is all on the outside, I'll have to watch out a little bit better. That's crazy that their knee draggin' shots were taken in roundabouts! I don't think I'll ever drag a knee, on the street for sure but not even on a track...my legs are too short. I think the bike will run out of lean angle before I'll touch a knee down. Thanks again for all the input! |

| The dragon is quite a ways from California haha. We have some awesome twsties out here too, one of my favorite rides that I do most often is Del Puerto Canyon Road - Mines Road - Tesla Road...about 70 miles of just twisties. Here's a link...the line on this map doesn't quite follow the road perfectly, but you can zoom in and see the roads. Google Maps But still, a trackday might be more beneficial to me. Especially if I can have an instructor tell me what I'm doing wrong/right. |
