Wholeheartedly concur.

I've got a speech prepared to plead my case to an LEO if the need arises. My guess is though, if they don't ride, either on the force, or on their spare time, they're not going to be that sympathetic to my cause.

Pulling to a complete stop on the shoulder is, IMHO, a high risk maneuver. The "good ol' boys" could interpret that as "Look, Billy Bob, that gurl wants me! Woohoo! Hold my beer and watch this!"

That's why I suggested to fake the pull over, then punch the throttle and leave them in the dust. They may come chasing after you, but if you're lucky, you'll have either put another vehicle between you and them, or you'll have attracted the attention of some LEO. Either option is better for your health than dealing with Billy Bob and Billy Joe.

Thier intent was to frighten you. It's sad and pathetic that the most power filled moment of thier puny lives was using a vehicle as a weapon. I've got to agree with Crash here. Keep them in front of you. Your options are infinate from that position. Yes you are FASTER than them (i.e. speed away...but they are still behind you and can catch up after you throttle down) but you are also more agile and can brake faster than them too. If you keep them in front of you where you can keep your eyes on them at all times, you take away most of the stupid things they can do to you AND you leave yourself a quick out at the next off ramp.

Ditto. When they are in front, you have much more control of the situation and more options than when they are beside you or behind you.

I like the ball bearing idea myself!!!!

Throw a small handfull on the ground, have them bounce up and hit their car, windshield, radiator...whatever....

Just be sure yo can haul ass outta there!!!

If I wasn't married or had no responsibility, I'd pull out my gun and blast their engine full of holes......, then after they stopped, blow out all their tires...

%%%%%s!!

Somebody wasn't breast fed

And the ball bearings were meant for the windshield...although I suppose you could just mad-max the bastids like you suggest

I'm with Nate...next time it happens, post it here. My cousin is on the Burlington PD. All my Dad's family live up in St. Albans area, so I know what you mean that the exits don't go anywhere.

Simply should've taken the exit when you had the chance. So what if you'd had to backtrack or gone a few miles out of your way? Much less stressful than what you had to deal with.

i'm guessing at the time... self preservation was the first thought on one's mind. I've never been harassed on my cycle by a car. cut off, passed during an intersection, pulled out on, ect ect yes... but never harassed so do you actually know what you'd do in that exact situation if you've never been in it?

I don't think it would be much of a problem in Vermont, but in parts of California, getting off the freeway at the wrong place can be more hazardous to your health than staying on it...

Further, I would be careful about dropping anything on the roadway. Yes, you may slow them down while a few ball bearings bounce off their windshield, but in the long run, that will just provoke them to be more aggressive towards you. On top of that, the debris that you drop today could be kicked up by a car and fly into your visor tomorrow ...

The company Victorinox (yes, the company that makes the Swiss Army Knives) sells a knife called the "Rescue Tool". ( Victorinox - Multi-Tools - RescueTool ) I'm thinking about getting one of those, and putting it in the side pocket of my tank bag. The "Rescue Tool" includes a hardened point to break windows in case of emergency. If provoked, I would drop back until I was close to the driver's side window, then tap (shatter) it and then open the throttle before the driver can even react.

FWIW, the one-handed version is only available if you have a weapons permit or are a member of a fire department or rescue organization. My fire department can't afford to buy these right now (they cost about $80 each), so I may just buy the "normal" two-handed version for myself. The window breaker tool is on the end of the knife, so I don't need to open anything to use it.

There are simpler, but probably not as motorcycle practical, versions available here. I got something similar for Xmas one year.

geeze guys... remember this is a newbie rider woman who started this thread.... I suspect such aggressive tactics...and fine riding coordination skills ...as it would take to break a window and run away faster than a truck can go are not gonna cut it for her.

LOL. You're too good for a plain ol' sine?

I thought about the ball-bearing suggest briefly, then I remembered that 1) I'd never do that myself, and therefore shouldn't recommend someone else do it, and 2) she's already feeling intimidated, making that solution a even poorer one.

WOW! I am a woman myself who just took up riding. I think I'd be more than scared if that happened to me.
I'm sooo happy you are alright.
Thank you for sharing, I am very short, and I guess you can tell I'm a girl when on the bike, so now that I'm aware I'll be more careful.
