We've discussed my 80-some year old grandmother a number of times. My family won't take her car away. I think that's a common scenario.

What can you do?

Well, they are introducing a new process here where drivers over 70 must "requalify" every 5 years. If they can't pass the driver's test, they lose their license.

Then again, we have an excellent public transportation system, so it's very possible to get along without a car.

Every driver over 16 should have that.

i had to retake my test here in Minnesota for drivers and cycle license.. Did better on the cycle portion than the car one.. thank god i didn't have to take a driving test or i'd flown off the handle on the dmv.. then they would have made me go to the back of the line.

Well, since you can't get your license here until you're 18 ... no need for junior to requalify, since he's got another 18 months before he can qualify to begin with!!!

I'd settle for retesting every 10 years.

Getting my motorcycle license in my 20s was the best thing I ever did when it comes to road safety...

I agree...anyone operating any type of motor vehicle should have to qualify to do so every 5-10 years, there should be a standard.
