| Four photos of the same viewpoint. Perfect! It's hard to tell, not knowing what the tire looked like new. I can't make out the wear indicators from your photos. Looks pretty shot, though. A new tire will transform your handling. Maybe you can use some of the side tread on the next one to make it last longer.

| ![]() Hi everyone, this is my first post. So excuse me. I am thinking of restoring/repainting the exhaust on my Suzuki Gs500e 1991. It's rolled for totally 30 000 km. I have owned it for about a month, and I am very satisfied, as it is my first bike. The picture is not the best, but the exhaust is a bit brown, and has some rust on it. What's the best way to tackle it? Thanks for replies /jakob |

| If it's rusty, a right good sanding (Crocus paper & wire brushes to get to shiney metal) and several coats of Engine or Brake caliper paint. Basically any paint that is heat resistant, you can even get Manifold paint, which is definately up to the job, However, you will save yoursef a world of pain if you can get the exhaust off the bike. Nice bike by the way, we have a couple of those in the school for teaching riders on mid-power range bikes, you'll get a lot of pleasure from that one. |

| Thank you. Here's another picture. Furthermore Im thinking about taking it apart completely and do like a "from the beginning" reassembling, and make sure that everything is tip-top. Since Im a new biker, I don't know much about these things, but Im very anxious to catch up new knowledge. Have anyone done that with a Gs500e 1991 before, and is there something special to have in mind? |

That being said, I've never done a complete tear-down, and I would never consider myself an accomplished mechanic. Doing a simple oil change can take me an hour because I'm constantly second-guessing myself and pacing while considering my plan of action. When it comes to mechanical things, it takes a few times of doing something for me to be able to do it at an average speed and do it right. Now, I'm also debating doing the complete restoration on my '72 Honda CL450 this Winter, but with my previous experiences in mind, I'm also planning on buying a (much) newer motorcycle before spring so that I'm not without a bike when the weather gets warm.
