I do it too but only when there is traffic behind me. Not when it's all clear. But I agree that it's a great idea and altho you may not be able to prevent all accidents, I am sure it reduces the chances.

Ditto, you ALWAYS gotta check six. My buddy forgot to do that on his BMW and a drunk woman hit him from behind at a light. (She blew a .20 on the breathalyzer at NOON on a Saturday!!)

I ALWAYS flash the brake light.......f'n blind cagers!!

I watch my mirrors and will flash if someone is following too closely and while sitting at a stoplight if someone is coming up behind me.

I do this too, but only if there's someone behind me. I do it especially often when on rides in the twisties, I don't want someone rear-ending me right off a cliff.
