Default Suggestions?

Well the snow had melted enough for me to get my bike out and it wouldn't start! I did not put any type gas treatment in it. Could that be the problem? Any suggestions would be great. I want to ride!!

thanks

jett

Patience, give it time, it's been less than an hour. It could possibly be the gas.

More info.

1. is the kill switch on?

2. is the gas turned on, and if so, try reserve?

3. Tell us what you hear when you hit the starter?

4. did you pull in the clutch?

5. do you have the choke on?

Give us something to work with here, just saying my bike doesn't start can cover a lot of ground.

Good point. The answer is yes to all 4 of your questions and the engine is turning over. I have not tried the reserve position though. Why would that make a difference?

If your fuel is low, or if the opening in the "on" position is plugged. Gremilns happen over the winter, I once had a mouse buld a nest in my air box.

how much gas do you have in it? I had that problem till i tossed a little more gas in it and put it on reserve. It allows for the gas to get pulled through at a lower point.

If it's not firing at all, the first thing I would do is take one of the plugs out, hook it back up to the plug wire, lay it on the head, and crank it over well observing the spark.

A good spark should be blue, a weak spark will look more yellowish, and of course if there is no spark, than you have found the reason it's not starting.

Fuel, spark, and compression are the three basic things your motor needs to run, it has to be one of those 3 things.

Normal winter gremlins -

- If you didn't properly winterize the bike, your carb may be clogged (the gas that was in it dried, leaving a sticky residue). Try some seafoam to clean it out.
- The battery may have lost power over the winter. Hook it up to a battery tender overnight and try again.
- The plugs may be dirty (again, dried fuel gumming everything up). Pull each plug, clean it, and then try again.
