Default Pacific Coast Ride

I had a nice little ride down Highway 1 along the Pacific earlier this week. Rode with my daughter from the LA area to Monterey on Monday on Interstate 5 and then Hwy 101. Spent Tuesday in the local area, and then came home Wednesday down Hwy 1.

I feel truly blessed to be able to do this route two or three times a year. Just south of Monterey is my favorite sign that reads "Curves Next 74 Miles". Some of it is a little inland through Big Sur, but most of it is along the coastline hugging the Pacific Ocean. The weather was beautiful, sunny skies and in the sixties. Traffic was not bad at all, and road conditions were mostly excellent. The rough areas are always clearly marked.

I hear so much about the Dragon on this forum, and it certainly sounds like something I'd love to experience. (I look forward to someday soon doing the whole Blueridge Parkway.) But the Dragon is what, 13 miles long? Until I make a trip east, I'll continue to enjoy Highway 1 and many of the other great roads California has to offer.

Fantastic. Nothing like that around here in Wisconsin.

I could have taken my bike to deadwood last summer... But it was about 300 miles more than i think i could have handled at the time by myself.. didn't help either it was like 90 out the week. But it would have been fun to ride in that area to see something different than what we have in this area.
