Default Ear Cannon Air Horn #3837

Ear Cannon Air Horn :: Horns :: Motorcycle Accessories :: Prevent Or Repair :: Aerostich/RiderWearHouse Motorcycle Jackets, Suits, Clothing, & Gear

Now THIS may be just what the doctor ordered!!! very interesting...I may have to add this to my bike's wish-list......

Anyone have one of these?? are they really that loud????
I'm going to stick with the stock pipes, but this may be an inexpensive alternative for getting attention!!!

thanks

dan

LOL....139 db!!! Not ony will that get their attention it would probably knock you off of the bike. Make sure you are wearing ear plugs if you get that thing!! I cannot even imagine something that loud.

Would be funny as hell to see you use it though. There wouldn't be dry pants within 100 feet of you!

I was hoping, if I go fast enough on my C50T, I'll leave the sound Db behind me and not have to worry about it!!!!

Of course if the horn was facing forward......the sound waves might slow me DOWN!!!!! he he he

I'm tellin ya! Every increment of "1" on the decibel scale...equals "1/10th" bels. So, 126 db is a full bel higher than 125.....and you are talking about 139 bels!! Holy shhhhhh.....err....SMOKES!!

Like I said....I don't think I've ever heard anything that loud....though, I do have to say that it does matter where they get that number. if it's at the horn's mouth it's a lot different than 3 or 10 ft. away. Nonetheless, that is one LOUD mama! If you get one, please report back on it. I would seriously consider one myself though earplugs are a definite must...I would think it would deafen you beein within a few feet of it.

The entertainment value is priceless though!

Lets make this easy in relative terms....a 3 db increase is about DOUBLE the total sound volume as we perceive it.
(farkin logarithms)

So 139 dba (a-weighted...meaning adjusted for inaudible by human ear sound is reduced numerically) means that that damn horn is over 4 times louder than a chainsaw!

simple terms....it's FARKIN LOUD!

end of Mr. Science episode

That C50T exceeds Mach 1? Dammm....and I settled for less than a 1/3 of that with a B-King

That looks like a knock-off of the Stebel Air Horn-I have one on my bike and it is verrrry loud. There are several threads about Stebels on this site-just do a seach. Here's a thread that was started a few days ago.

Consider these facts:

Hearing loss due to noise exposure is irreversible.

Dangerous noise starts at 80 decibels (dBA). Many workplace noises are well above safe limits. (90 dBA is the legal limit at which workplace hearing protection is required.)

Noise is measured on a sliding scale. 90 dBA is actually ten times louder than 80 dBA, not just ten “points.”

Sirens, horns, power tools and mobile equipment produce the highest risk of noise exposure in the transportation industry

Damage from noise exposure usually happens during the first five years of work.

Learning about the problem is an excellent way to start controlling noise.

Making a smart investment in quieter machines can reduce exposure

Actually, this isn't exactly true. The dba scale is a relative scale weighted to human hearing. If you notice above, I stumbled when first describing the scale and had to restate it in clearer terms. The relationship to increasing noise volume and the dba scale is not simply linear (i.e. 10 dba is ten times "louder" is correct only at 10..but it doesn't progress linearly from there). Rather than bore everyone with mathematics, anyone interested can go to:

What is a decibel?

and check it out for themselves.

I figure the horn is a good idea. Its not like your going to ride with it full blast for miles. I have a Stebel in my garage waiting for installation.
