Default New CHP bikes

Are they the new BMW R1200RTP? Just wondering, mainly because a friend said that they're quite slow, and I was looking up the specs of these bad boys and they seem like they're pretty decent bikes. My friend is also comparing the cop bike to his 600cc sportbike, so it might not be a fair comparison.

A police bike is never "slow". The BMW is a 1200ccm boxer, but it will be heavy with all kinds of electronics (radios, cameras, lights, siren, etc.). It's not designed to be a racing bike like a GSX-R 600, it's a touring bike. The officers will be riding those bikes on 8 to 10 hour shifts - they need to be comfortable. 10 hours on a Gixxer is a form of torture.

I know some motor officers who ride BMW 1200RPTs, as a local force started switching over last year. They claim they are very reliable and comfortable, and while top speed is no better than the Harley Road Kings they turned in, the BMW accelerated more quickly and handle better.

that looks like it very well could have been the bike that the CHiP was sitting on this past Sunday.

i was following a guy through Santiago Canyon (heading North, from Lake Forest area, towards Orange) and was getting a bit frustrated at his 55mph speed. the car turned and the CHiP was just around the next bend. he started to pull out, but did not.

'07 GSXR 600 or not, being able to outrun him or not... it turned out that there were 3 more officers on that road that day.

On a somewhat related topic, I saw a CHP officer inserting a physical key into the door lock of his Ford Police interceptor to unlock the door. Then I got to think, don't the police cruisers come with remote-controlled power door locks ?

They haven't made a bike (ridden by the cops, or the crooks) that can outrun a radio wave.

Either one, the radio or their bikes, are toofast for me!!

I'm waiting for the day that I get stopped for swerving to miss manhole covers! On one road on my way home from work, in a stretch of one mile, there are 12 manhole covers. That's not ordinarily a problem, but the last time the road was resurfaced, the manhole covers weren't raised. They are about 2 inches lower than the road surface and jar your teeth when you hit one.
So far they can't tell if I'm playing around or had a couple of beers too many!!
